Credit Card Cloned

Having just had my card cloned , (most likely when buying petrol at a supermarket) I have a few queires...

Firstly how could it of happened?

But mainly...

does this effect my credit rating?

and I was told that I am not liable however is this the case for all cards, credit and debit?

Anything else I should worry about (or ideally not worry about!)

You should be covered for any loss by the credit company/bank give them a call for your reassurance.
There have been several programmes over the past year covering credit card fraud and thefts. There are several ways of obtaining the PIN number this is one of the latest and most effective because it uses computers and WiFi links to speed up the thefts.
The only defence against this type of theft is to cover the keypad you are using with your hand or if it is handheld hold it close to your chest when putting the PIN number in.
I hope you get your money back.Post here again it would be interesting to hear how you get on.
One of the latest thefts is to have a small camera above the PIN keypad on ATM's broadcasting a signal to a offender nearby with a laptop in his rucksack which recieves the image from the camera the software reconises the numbers and sends them to another offender (this can be any distance Thailand /USA etc)down the street the signal is fed into a card reader attached to a blank card the offender places the blank card into the ATM slot and pretends to use the keypad in reality the cardreader is telling the computer the PIN number it has just recieved from the camera image the ATM is fooled and the offender requests money from the ATM probably several times until the card is rejected. The offenders then wait for the next person to take money out of the first ATM and the whole theft cycle begins again.
It shouldn't affect your credit rating as long as you report it straight away.

How could it happen, answer with great ease.

Credit Rating - It could, it all depends how long it takes to get sorted out.

Told you weren't liable. You think you're not as the Banking Code artilce 12.12 states:

If someone else uses your card, before you tell us it has been lost or stolen OR that someone else knows your PIN, the most you will have to pay is £50.

(This was very true when you continued to sign but using PINs is different.

    Goodluck.
