I am redecorating bedrooms and hallway. Carpets are going in bedrooms and laminate (or LVT) in the hallway. Also replacing all the skirts / architraves at the same time as well as plastering and decorating the whole place
For the laminate I think it is best to put the laminate down first and the skirts / architraves on top for a flush finish - unless my thought process is not right....??
Is it the other way round for carpets? Do the skirts and woodwork go down first?

I'd say you're right - I had a new build several years ago and asked the builders to loosely pin the skirting so that I could lay laminate and then fit the skirting over the gap as I think the beading that is usually used with laminate looks so tacky.0 -
Skirting and architrave first in the rooms to be carpeted.
Laminate flooring before skirting board and architrave - although architrave not as important as even if fitted first it can be easily undercut.0 -
Our builder put skirtings in first, flush to the floor, then fitted our LVT tight up to it and siliconed all round the edges.
Seemed very tedious to me and I would have thought t'other way round would have been much easier, but hey ho, what do I know!0 -
Laminate usually needs an expansion gap which skirting fits over nicelyNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0
