Next account on credit report

Options
Hi
I've just checked my credit report and noticed that In the closed accounts section it showed 'Next' closed account, balance £145.
This account was opened it 2009 on my first ever purchase on the website, I used it a few times, being naive got behind on payments, payed it off and asked them to close the account. It says it was last updated in 2014! I rang next who said it was a mistake, everything was payed off years ago, they'll update it.
Will this have been affecting my credit rating all these years?
I once saw about a year ago a default showing on my report from next but assumed this was due to late payments, could it of been from this balance not showing as paid?
What do I do now? How long will it take to update my credit report? I'm very new to this credit report checking and this forum so hope someone can help. Thanks.

It won't affect any credit rating. Lenders will see it when they search your files.

What is the status of the account? Does it show as defaulted, or just closed? If there are no negatives around the account, it's of little concern.

It takes usually 4-6 weeks for your credit files to be updated. Make sure you check with the three major CRAs that everything is correct.

  • Thanks for your quick replies! It's just showing as closed now but I was worried with it showing a balance it looks like I haven't payed it off?

If there are no accompanying negative markers, it won't concern lenders.

But get it tidied up for peace of mind.
  • I've just checked on a full credit report and it is showing as defaulted and missed payments all in the last 6 months. Not sure how or why it's showing this as Next said it was paid off in 2014. So surely that must be affecting my score? Can I get it removed or corrected? Next have said they will update it but have heard they aren't very good at following through on this!

Write to Next, so that you are starting a paper trail. In the letter, ask that your file is corrected with the up-to-date information (no defaults etc).

By having a paper trail, it makes it easier to complain if they fail to comply with your request.
