Old Style Daily Monday 8th October

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning everyone :hello:
I am up as Steve has come down with a cold so was snoring like a trooper in my ear. Oh well, I can catch up later and the poor thing has to be up for work in a short while. Lilly is also full of cold too so I will be making some chicken soup later on. I also need to ask Phoebe to go to Tesco and stock up on some soft tissues.
Yesterday's bedroom sorting didn't happen as we have run out of binbags so that has been moved to next weekend. Did manage to make the cheesecake though which went down well. Today, Lee has an orthodontist appointment so will book him a taxi when it is a reasonable hour.
I am going to make ham and pineapple rice for dinner tonight as it is quick and easy. Lee wants to do some baking today so that will be pudding sorted as well.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning All
Drizzly wet morning here, at least yesterday's wind has calmed down. Saturday was absolutely beautiful, clear blue skies and brilliant sunshine but mighty cold. No two days alike at the moment.
Still thinking of you TA, sounds like you are all being so well looked after.
DD and I were up and out early yesterday, we drove down to Troon for a spa day (a treat from her BF for helping out with the house move and decorating - she can keep him!) and it was glorious. I had a full body massage followed by a facial then we used the pool and jacuzzi for a while. A lovely 2 course lunch was included, there was a mix up with DDs vegan choices but they changed everything with no question. A really lovely relaxing day.
Anyway, that's now a memory and I've to go back to work today but meeting with friends after for dinner and a catch up, looking forward to that as usual.
DS2 is having surgery this morning - he broke his collar bone yesterday when he fell off his bike and has to have a plate put in today, he sent me a picture of the X-Ray, it's broken in 3 places with splinters all over the place, must be so painful. He knocked his GF off her bike too and she has a huge lump on her head. A kind couple stayed with them while they waited for an ambulance and the police took the bikes away but they have no idea where they are!
Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone
dumpling - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly as he's going for a run this morning.
Dark here still, but dry underfoot and wasn't a particularly cold night although the heating has come on, I think before I go to work I'll switch it back off, if it's not warm enough later I can put it back on.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, carrots, swede, cauli/broc cheese, peas, yorkshires and gravy - all delish. Tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.
We visited my parents yesterday but then had a very lazy day, watching tv etc. Back to normal today and back to work, we'll see what today brings. Mum seemed more comfortable with her foot.
Keep safe and well x

Wow Camelot, that's a nasty accident your DS2 had. I hope the op goes well and he's soon on the mend.
I awoke at the back of 4.00am, and have been resting since until the cat pounced on me, Simon's Cat style, wanting some attention from her devoted slave.
It stayed wet all day yesterday as forecast, so after the coffee meet up, I made curried butternut squash soup. It tasted a bit dull, so I added cubes of roast sweet potato and blended it again. Also made leek and carrot soup which was more successful. I've some of both in the fridge, and froze the rest.
The freezer didn't yield up any duck legs, I must have used them and forgotten. So I made a curry with chicken thighs instead. There's enough for two more meals, easy ones as all the veg got chopped and added to the curry, with the last of the spaghetti squash. I didn't have any chutney, so instead added the juice of an orange and snipped in 6 prunes, which worked really well.
Today is admin and housework this morning, and a swim mid afternoon. Tomorrow is busier, I'm seeing a friend in the morning, then I have an osteopath appointment in another town to sort out a niggle which has been around too long. It depends on the advice given whether I have yoga practice in the evening.
Thinking of the poorlies and carers and careworn... I hope everyone has the best day possible. xxx0 -
Good morning
Camelot sounds like a lovely day I love a good girlie spa. Ouch for DS though that sounds really nasty hope the op goes OK
TA thanks for the catch up. Maybe we could all think about a small donation to Sue Ryder hospices as a way to to thank them for looking after our girl and her family so well.
OL I know the feeling I need to pull the blind in the kitchen in case the window cleaner comes :rotfl:
Well that was a tough weekend and dont much feel like any break was had. Not sure who said it was a day of rest but it certainly isn't in my world its a case of needs must. Hoping next weekend will be off though as I need to sort this house.
So today I'm off for a few days for a course in the lakes nice hotel and hopefully a couple of nice groups so work life could be worse. It was worth all the weekend work tbh as all that remains today is a bit of prep and a mooch up north.
Update on Holly got a message and she had a bad day on Saturday. Yesterday her brother came and they were going to head out which I know will do her loads of good. She is ringing today so I will send her all of your love.
So have a good day all if you can :A0 -
The bed is done and I was visited by zero buses in the night, whoopee! I had a real craving for kimchi over the weekend, the only place I could find it was sainsburys, so today I'll be looking for how to make it and possibly off to purchase ingredients, it tasted so good...I ate nearly whole jar and there's one more left in the cupboard, don't think it's going to be enough hence the making of some.
I'm also going to make picallili at some point this week, I found a great recipe years ago for it, has triple the amount of tumeric and other stuff, and it's the best one I've ever tatsed. Have picked all the remains of the tomatoes from the greenhouse so the green ones will be going in that. I;m going to have to rescue the cucumbers from the compost too as I forgot it could go in it [don't worry, it has a thick skin and it's right on the top and has only been there for a day [it's like the 3 second composting rule innit?]
Dumpling, hope you don't catch the colds! OL - I'm with you in spririt for the blitzing, but not actually in body.Camelot, sorry to hear about your son, that's got to be so painful and it's one of those places that they can't really strap either. Hope it goes well for him today. mlc, glad your mums foot is better. Wm - enjoy your day, reast up for tomorrow
Sorry about your weeekend washout nelski, hope your groups go well today...good news about hollys brother visiting.
Wotcha nanny, hope your gran is better Sperky, and hugs and stuff for everyone

Morning everyone,
Get well wishes to house Dumpling.
Your spa day sounds smashing Camelot but ouch on your DS’s accident, hope the op goes well.
I think a donation to Sue Ryder is a great idea Nelski.
All is well here apart from it’s a fast day and I love my breakfaststrying to make do with coffee and will shortly make some bread ready for lunch. Apart from that there is some work to do, plus housework and of course time to see Lu.
Thoughts are with the TA’s and all poorlies, also anyone with worries and cares.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Hello, can I jump in? Good morning everyone! I used to post to this board years ago fell off the wagon, but am back now!
Currently lying on the sofa with a cat dreaming on my lap and the lightbox on. I need to get up. Mr Hedgesparrow started some chutney last night so I relit the gas under that this morning. It is using up our green tomatoes, a marrow, some beetroot and windfall apples from the path at our allotment.
I sell stuff online for a living and three things sold yesterday so I need to pack those up and trot to the post office. Must remember to turn the chutney off before I go!Grocery Challenge £114.22/ £1100 -
Good Morning, everybody :hello: - clear and bright start to the day here on Merseyside
. Some bits of blue sky visible plus, can even see the 'Flintshire Hills' (Moel Arthur) very clearly today :j.
dumpling - thank you for starting today's thread. Bad luck at trying to sleep next to a 'snuffly snorer', but, as you say, you can catch up with your sleep later when he's gone to work - hope he's ok during the day
. Best of luck for Lee at Orthodontist - I need to take Nathan to dentist later, over a damaged filling .
Organza - Kitchen/Bathroom scrubbing PLUS child-sitting ............... you're a brave lady!
camelot1001 - hope DS and g/f are ok today - must have been scary news for you when you heard about their accident . Spa day - what a lovely treat - that guy is DEFINITELY a 'keeper' :j!
nmlc - what a lovely day and good to hear that your DM's foot is feeling better.
WeeMidgie - Oh dear, 'dreaded admin'- but enjoy the rest of your day :j!
Nelski - sorry - think I was the one who mentioned 'day of rest'.................. it was NEVER one for me either, before retirement
. Hope you can find some time to enjoy NEXT SUNDAY though :j. enjoy your trip to The Lakes this week - are you staying anywhere nice? Travel safe!
-taff - Ejnjoy your pickling and 'kimchi-ing' - I'd definitely go along with that '3 second composting rule':rotfl:.
LaineyT - mmm HM Bread making - sounds .
hedgesparrow - welcome back . I'm another 'past poster' who's recently returned to the fold. Well done on selling your Ebay items :j and enjoy your day.
Thinking about all who unwell - or caring for those who are unwell. ((((Healing Hugs)))) and prayers to you all
My plans for today include -- Trip to local hospital with DD for her 'pre-op'. She's decided to have 'sterilisation' done - and opted for hysterectomy as she's had 'abnormal cervix cells' a couple of times.
- Depending on how long that will take, I'm also taking DGS1 for a dental appointment - he has a damaged filling that will need re-doing  and he'll be better with me than his mother for that ...................... will give me far less aggro over it
!
- The back home to sort out evening meal for myself and OH
I'd better get a 'shifty' on, other wise I won't get on the Hospital Shuttle Bus service in time.0 -
