Utility Comparison sites.
Hi
I have a bit of a conundrum when it comes to comparing different utility companies.
For instance, can anyone explain how I am able to make a saving of about £200, when the new unit rate quoted is about 1p p/kw cheaper than my existing rate, but the daily standing charges double from 16 p/pd to 30 p/pd, double the cost.
I have also noticed that when it comes to the actual bill, The Unit rate for electricity is 12.88 p/kWh, but the usage rate actually charged is only 12.267 p/kWh.
The Unit rate: for gas 2.74 p/kWh, but the usage rate actually charged is only 2.610 p/kWh.
I do not believe the utility company are not aware of this, so has anyone else spotted this kind of mismatch?
Keith.

The unit prices quoted on the comparison sites are inclusive of VAT, the bills add VAT at the end. 2.610 x 1.05 is 2.704, 12.267 x 1.05 is 12.8803. The savings are likely based on the old OFGEM mandated basis of what you will be paying for the next year including the standard variable tariff after your fix ends, most sites allow you to change that methodology to compare with current tariff.0
