Ebay charges on high value items

WOW! Not sold a high value item on there before. Didn't trust selling my item on Gumtree for fear of being mugged.

Was my MS Surface. Sold for £889. I knew there'd be fees but jesus! Ebay took £90 and Paypal took £30.

£120 cut and I have to pay P&P as it wasn't selling so cut the P&P price to free.

Oh well. Needed to sell it. Lets just hope it's a genuine buyer and they don't do the fake claims once arrived.

Too late now I know, but maybe useful for the future. Private sellers are inundated with offers , this weekend for instance many have the £1 cap on fvS, so if selling anything of value in future wait for an offer.

eBay and PayPal charges can mount up, but they are all available beforehand so that sellers can decide where to set their prices.

Ebay got you a sale at £889. After fees how does this compare with taking it to a pawn shop? You may have done well even after paying fees, although as soolin says you could have taken advantage of their offers.

Is that £1 cap site wide or for selected accounts only?

I have a high value item to sell so have been waiting for an offer to come up, this weekend would be perfect

The £1 cap varies. Excludes some items and some categories,

You need to check the offers on at the time.

It seems most , but not all, private sellers have it. Always keep in eye on your promotions in eBay as these offers are common.

Not sure if it's any good as it runs out today.

The problem is I relisted it about 3 times and it didn't sell until after I put the P&P to free. I don't think that what sealed the deal but still :) which means I kept missing out on the deals :(

Just hope the buyer is legit and doesn't attempt a fake claim as I really need the money.
