Most people recommend booking direct with airline, especially now as even the major carriers have introduced “light” fares.

Was there a price difference between booking direct and using travel republic

Having said that I do believe they should pay for your baggage

Thanks all for help and a bit more clarity. I cannot find a fare code on my confirmation.

You might be able to find it on the airline's website if you look up your booking. I don't know why so many people insist on booking their flights through dodgy 3rd parties rather than from the airline itself.

The main price difference was for the hotels, I looked at booking flight and hotel separately, flights direct with airline were not overly expensive, however the hotels were hugely expensive. If you booked flight and hotel together it made the hotel around half the price of booking seperately. This is the reason so many people book this way. Surely the 'dodgy 3rd party site's 'should be more transparent with their bookings rather than going out of their way to deceive people.

I don’t think Travel Republic can be put in the category of a dodgy 3rd party. They are a trading brand of Dnata Group who are in the same family as Emirates Airlines.

As the OP says, you can often obtain a better deal by booking a flight plus another holiday component such as a hotel together. You also in this case have ATOL protection.
  • Quick update. Superviser at travel republic just called, as it's codeshare flight unable to add baggage prior to check in, they have spoken to the flight supplier too who have said we need to add it at airport . Travel republic have found out cost to add on the day and have reimbursed me the full cost, so I will not be out of pocket and claiming back on my return. Very nice lady accepted full responsibility so I'm happy with outcome. I have told them they need to change their website as I can't be the only person to book because baggage included. Thanks for advice.

Netflights is actually another of the Dnata/Emirates trading brands.

Given the above story from Nursetina and the positive outcome, you might wish to take the same position with Netflights and direct them to this thread and outcome should they initially disagree with making the baggage refund to you.

My saving grace was the contacts I had with them prior to booking asking for confirmation of baggage included. Have you called them to discuss yet? When I first spoke to them they tried to dismiss it and say I would just have to pay for baggage at the airport. I stated I wasn't happy to do this as I had entered into a contract with them that included baggage and that they were breaking the contract. I also said they were false advertising.. I hope you get a good outcome.
