Miffed with Amazon

I’m just letting off steam really but I wondered how common this is...

I ordered some goods on Amazon on Friday which were due to be delivered Saturday. I was notified on Saturday morning that my goods were on their way to me and would arrive by 9pm.

About 1pm I was notified that the delivery was 8 stops away. 25 minutes later there were only 3 stops. Half an hour later and ‘the driver has some stops before you’.

Nothing until 7:30pm when I was back to three stops. It never got delivered.

I chatted to them online this morning and received an apology and offered a £5 voucher for my next order. In my mind £5 is inadequate compensation for staying in all day so I politely declined and advised that I would cancel the orders.

The goods arrived mid morning today but I refused them.

I think that I shall try to stick to the high street in future.

...At least you didn't get a "Your driver has just attempted to.."
That one really gets my back up WHEN I'M IN WAITING!!

But in all fairness, I think that one bad one was for goods bought on Amazon but delivered by DPD so Amazon wasn't really at fault.

I do sometimes wonder why various tracking systems sometimes display the delivery driver within shouting distance and yet make me wait another 20-30 further stops while he goes off on a tour of europe before heading back, that's kinda puzzling.

Probably best to ignore the tracking systems or at least not take them too literally.
It's no use, for example, the delivery driver going to your address if your parcel has been loaded behind or under other parcels which take priority.

The delivery driver is also allowed a lunch break etc. :)

No (delivery) company gets it right all the time, I'd rather order from Amazon than head into town in the hope the shop has the item I want (often more expense that online). Plus paying for parking etc to factor in.

It seems like you are cutting off your nose to spite your face!

You obviously wanted the item so I don’t see why you would refuse delivery when it arrived this morning.

Amazon don’t care so in the grand scheme of things all you’ve done is turn down a free fiver and you don’t have the goods you wanted!

Also just to add I think it’s great that you can order something from amazon on a Friday, it arrives on the Sunday morning and yet that is late as it should arrive on the Saturday. It’s fantastic how quick they are and that they deliver on sundays.

My point is that because they messed up I lost my complete Saturday. I know that they only promised to deliver by Saturday night but had they told me as soon as they realised that there was an issue I'd have accepted it.

My suspicion is that the driver couldn't find my address and so gave up on me at lunchtime. The road in which I live has a change of name about 30 yards away which occasionally leads to confusion.

As it happens I've ordered from John Lewis instead. One item was £60 cheaper (although a different version) and the other £25 more expensive (although a better version). The third item was only some tea which I don't particularly need.

Do you have an Amazon locker facility anywhere near you. They are great and would lower your blood pressure too!!

...and what is to guarantee the same won't happen to your John Lewis delivery? It might even use the same courier as Amazon!

I have no idea but I don’t drive so there would be no benefit to me to do it this way.

My blood pressure is fine, thanks.

There’s nothing to stop the same thing happening to any courier. The difference is that Amazon have let me down already. I’m not going to get frustrated about the possibility of another retailer giving terrible service.

    I bet you do though.
