Should ridge tiles always be bedded in with mortar?

Hi Everyone,

Hope you can see that this does relate to what was quoted versus what has happened! Our roof has been replaced but the ridge tiles have not been bedded in with mortar, as far as I can see, there is expanding foam under them but they are just slotted together on top - is there any chance that this is not an accident? Can this be done? I want to be sure before I speak to the roofer who I am rapidly loosing confidence in - I don't want to be fobbed off.

Many thanks for any advice.

There are mortarless fixing systems but I don't think they involve expanding foam.

Building regulations dictate mechanical fixings now.

Don't ask me how they work!

Expanding foam shouldn't really be used or necessary but the roofer may use it to insulate the apex, but only if the roofing state doesn't require ventilation at the apex.

Ask the roofer for a photo of the mechanical fixings he has used, if he claims to have used them.
