O/S Daily Sunday 7th October 2018
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning all
Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them, especially thinking of the TA's
Another bad night, been up since 4am.
Watching F1 GP at the moment.
Looks like a nice day so must try and tidy the garden or go for a walk and people watch. If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
How are you getting on with your tv box SO, any problems? (sorry you had a bad night, mine are a bit sleepless too!)0

Morning everyone and thanks for the start SilverOldie sorry to hear about your sleep problems.
It’s a gorgeous morning here after yesterday’s rain but very cold, the heating has clicked on though so all is cosy. Have been out to the garden and topped up the birdseed, quite a few apples came down yesterday but the ones left on the tree are really quite red now so must pick those today before we lose the best of the crop, it’s been a good one this year.
Other than that it’s the usual stuff of listening to the Archers, cooking a roast and some general pottering.
One bit of good news, my DSIL who you may remember had the recent health problems, got engaged to her lovely chap yesterday, couldn’t be more pleased for them both. Her life has been tough since the death of my brother and she thoroughly deserves this happiness.
Have a good day folks x0 -

Humax box seems very good, thank you for asking. I think the only problem is me trying to understand how it works. The sound is a bit inconsistent when you change channels. Being able to record is such a bonus. If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Good morning
I was awake too at 4am (what is it about that time) but did manage to go back to sleep eventually sorry you didn't SO Doesn't help in my case that I went to bed very early but was shattered and nothing but Harry Potter on ....again
Working again today and its pretty full on so not much else happening of any interest. Bought a chicken and some crusty bread yesterday so had hot chicken sandwiches for teaLoads of chicken left so I'll pick at that again either with the bread or maybe some chips and peas later. I will probably stretch at least another 3 meals as it was pretty big so rubber chicken it is.
No word from Holly yesterday and I have a feeling her brother may well be visiting today so that will be great for her. This time she can leave the ward no problem so as long as she lets the staff know she may head out for some lunch and her favourite cake for pud
Will update soon as I hear anything else
Right best crack on then love to the TAs and my mate nanny who has finally exited the cupboard under the stairs thank goodness sunday dinner with dad would have been interesting in there  Hope he is OK btw x0 -
Good morning everyone.
Thick white clouds here with a forecast of nasty rain arriving later do I'll hunker down in front of the fire. Before the rain comes I need to go out to bring more wood in from the barn.
I was kept awake for ages by a rutting stag bellowing in the field outside. Never had one do close before, usually it's bulls which are much louder.
Plans for today are to sort out the utility room where there's stuff just piled up. It all needs cleared out.
The coffee meeting with an old friend yesterday was lovely. He's a retired architect who is in the middle of a massive renovation of his late mother's bungalow. We had a wee 'tour' of it. From being a standard bungalow in a standard road it's been transformed into a superb space with a mezzanine studio space. Not for me though just beautiful.
Now I'm off to start my day. I don't want to wish my day away but I'm so looking forward to Dr Who. :j
Thoughts and love to all our 'family'.
Happy Sunday.0 -
Good Morning everybody :hello: - looks like we've got a very sunny - but rather cool (12C) - day forecast for us here on Merseyside
. Will keep the blinds/curtains open in the hopes of trapping some sunshine on the windows
.
silver-oldie - Thanks for starting the thread for us for today :T. Sorry to hear that you've had a disturbed night - but enjoy your F1 today.
LaineyT - Sounds like a 'Traditional Sunday' at your house today - enjoy the day :j.
Nelski - sorry to hear that you're another who's had a bad night's sleep. Don't work too hard today - remember it's supposed to be 'a day of rest'
! I worked 'Sundays' for 25yrs - so I'm very familiar with having to be busy when everybody else is 'off'
.
Gers - Good to hear that you enjoyed your Coffee Meet-up yesterday. My DSis and her lovely OH have just moved into a 2bed bungalow (from 3floor/4bed house) - but it doesn't sound anything remotely like the one that your friend is designing. Enjoy your Sunday and The Doctor
.
Prayers for all who aren't well or looking after others in bad health, Sympathies to all who struggle to sleep and ((((HUGS)))) for all who want them.
Church for me this morning, so looking forward to meeting up with friends there.
Lots of meat left on yesterday's chicken, so Chicken Stir-fry for us later today - may pop into Lidl after church as I've got to pass it to get to the bus stop for coming back home again.
Looking forward to Agatha Raisin on TV this evening. Not sure that Ashley Jensen is the right person for the role .................... but only because she's w-a-a-y too young/slim/pretty to play Agatha - who is described as 53yrs old, overweight, over-bearing and drinks a bit too much!
Have a good day everybody .0 -
Good morning everyone, chilly here, about 8C at present. The Sunday stroll will be a cuppa instead as it's too wet to walk. Then a quiet afternoon with either knitting or tapestry, or both.
I've still to make soup, postponed from yesterday. One lot will use up leeks and another will be based on butternut squash. I have YS duck legs to defrost for tonight, veg will be cavolo nero, carrots, peas and sweet potato. I'll have enough to feed me tomorrow as well, hurrah. Having my usual weekend breakfast of bacon and tomato... but still tucked up in bed just now with the cat. Purr, purr, I don't know which of us is happier, we're both loving it.
Thinking of the poorlies and carers and careworn, I hope you have your best day possible. xxx0 -
Morning lovely people and, as usual, thanks to all who sent PM's and and wished us well in their posts. It's reassuring to think so many are thinking of us in the real world.
So begins another day in my Life at the Hospice. Bob is still with us but still sleeping a lot. Lucid when awake but not up to long conversations as he soon usually loses concentration and it's too tiring to be bothered talking anyway. We understand this but odd visitors try to bombard him with questions he can't be bothered answering.
Yesterday was a nasty day as they did another bowel care procedure and this upsets him. We had to get the nurses a few times in the night too as he was still needing odd trips to the loo and that's an ordeal in itself. He has had a little bit of breakfast and has now fallen back asleep so the morning wash and change (and bed change) will have to wait a bit. His favourite male nurse is back on duty this morning so he is hoping he will do it and give him a shave as well. He says as nice as it is being surrounded by pretty nurses waiting on him hand and foot he does enjoy a bit of male company too.
DS will be here shortly but DD (and 2 youngest DGDs) will be a bit later this morning as eldest DGD is off shopping in Leeds with a friend and her mum so she is dropping her at the station first. I transferred a bit of spending money to her a/c to treat herself to something nice. She deserves it as she comes every day to visit her grandad, sometimes coming up on the bus after school to save DD driving down for her.
I had a little trip out yesterday - to the Co-op in the village! To stock up on supplies for my store cupboard (ie wardrobe), ready meals for the fridge and an assortment of fruit for the room. The staff here ask at every mealtime if I want anything but I don't want to take advantage as the Sue Ryder hospices rely solely on charity and need every penny to keep going.
DD has set up an assortment of bird feeding things outside to give Bob something to watch but the squirrels are eating most of it.
Have a good day if you can folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them xxx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all and thank you for starting the thread silver-oldie. I'm sorry you had such a bad night. I was so exhausted that I did sleep so am feeling a bit more human today - yesterday I ended up going back to bed and was out like a lightm why am I not like that at night!
I don't have particular plans today other than cooking Sunday dinner. I have a smallish Y'S gammon joint. The label says to cook it in its plastic bag and I'm not very sure about this, what do others think?
I am sending loving thoughts to the TA family and of course to anyone else who would like a little hugI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0
