O/S Daily Saturday 6th October 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here this morning, forecast for today is rain all day - although it's not raining at the moment, it was really muggy yesterday afternoon, it supposed to cool down a lot tonight too, but then be brighter tomorrow and getting better next week and quite warm again. Heating still not on.

DH and myself up enjoying first cuppas, I'm showered, dressed and eating brekkie as I'm working this morning - they were short staffed for today due to sickness.

Dinner last night was ham, egg and chips/jacket potato and veg. Tonight will be pizza, breaded chicken pieces, minted lamb kebabs, chips and salad, pasta salad and coleslaw.

I was reasonably productive again yesterday - I got the few admin jobs needed done, also tackled the ironing mountain and got our bed changed.

Mum seems to feel more comfortable and has to keep the boot on as she's cracked the bone in her foot, they don't want to plaster it. It'll take 6-8 weeks.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning :)

Feels quite chilly today doubt its going to be a good drying day so washing can stay in.

Working all weekend but will try to squeeze in a few house jobs somewhere and maybe a bit of catch up tv

Holly update. She managed to ring yesterday and I am pleased to report she was very upbeat. It seems the doctors and nurses are doing their level best to make sure she has as good an experience as possible even down to providing her favourite foods. She now has a date for the op which will be on the 18th. They have arranged for a nurse to accompany her to the other hospital that will operate and she was even asked which nurse she wanted with her which is just so important for her. She will then go back after the op and stay for another couple of weeks. She sends her love but is really struggling with phone service and has to go off site just to make a call so I'm afraid she wont be able to post. All in all though the whole experience seems so much more positive this time although of course theres a long way to go.

Hope everyone has a good weekend and as always thoughts are with TA

Looks like it could be a lovely day here, one lot of washing already on the line and the bedding just spinning. It's really cold but I can see blue skies just appearing.

Hope your DM makes a speedy recovery nmlc.
Pleased to hear Holly is doing well, thanks for the update Nelski, send her my best wishes.

I did loads of housework when I got home yesterday including a much needed mop of the floors and washed down all the kitchen units, it smells really nice too. Went for a chinese takeaway at a friends after for a good old chinwag - a good start to the weekend.

I'm going to have a look around some shops this morning, I don't have many autumn/winter clothes, just hope I don't get fed up too quickly!

Hugs and love as usual to TA and the family.

Have a good weekend, take care. XX
  • Good morning. It seems fine outside, if a bit grey. Not cold though.

Thankyou NMLC for starting - hope your Mum is managing with her"boot"

Nelski, thanks for the Holly update, glad she seems ok.

I've just put a load in the WM, hope I can get it out. The washing seems to have built up a bit.

There's a bit of shopping to do, and jobs to catch up on, and that's it really.

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Take care folks

Morning everyone and thanks for the start nmlc, pleased to read that your mum is more comfortable.

Thank you for the update on Holly Nelski lets hope that the stay continues to be positive and they support her through the op, please give her my best when you next speak x

We are forecasted to have rain from 11am, typical as I have a hay delivery coming at some point in the afternoon so that will be fun, have explained to the supplier about my knee and he is bringing his brother to help unload as my DOH is out all day.
Apart from that not many plans, I also had a good sort out of my kitchen yesterday Camelot washed everything down with bicarb and lemon so smells good, only job I didn’t do is my oven but thought I would wait until after our roast tomorrow.

Thoughts are with all poorlies or those caring for loved ones.

Have a good day folks x

Morning all. Slept on old bed = run over by bus...I'm sensing a theme here. Will shake myself [and the OH] to sort that out this weekend. I really need more sleep or at least good quality sleep and everything is here ready so onwards!
Didn't make it to DIY shop but did make it to the local Scrapstore where I bought 1m of cloth for the princely sum of....wait for it.... £1....And a pair of waterproof socks for hmself [in his flipper feet size! ] for £1.50.
So I can get on with the waistband of the skirt I'm making [material was for inner lining - ran out of main material ] and he can splash in puddles.
Food will be some chicken based concoction or maybe some kind of spag bog effect in the slow cooker - threw the soup away - even though I couldn't taste it, I could smell it, and drinking dark brown liquid when it should be pleasantly greenish or clearish was putting me off. No harm done though, it was not that much veg and I've learned another meal that can't be cooked in it. For anyone who fancies it though, I totally recommend the chilli mac and cheese in it.

Good news about your mum nmlc, good to hear holly is doing well nelski, weekend working though, yeuch!

hope everyone is coping OK and that any infections are short lived. Wotcha NW, peace to the troubled. Sweet smells to the cleaned kitchens :)

Hi everyone, the outside temperature is only 4 C just now, I'll be wearing gloves to coffee club this morning.

Thanks for the Holly update nelski. So glad she's getting the support she needs.

It'll be a domestic afternoon, tidying, hoovering and cleaning. Then knitting time. Foodwise, using some of the cooked spaghetti squash for adding into a stir fry, and will make leek soup as I have rather a lot of leeks.

Hugs to all, have the best day possible. xxx

Morning all and thank you for starting the thread nmlc. Good to know your mum is more comfortable.

Nelski thank you for the update, so positive in contrast to Holly's last stay.

    Thinking about the TA family.

Like ~taff, I've not had much sleep, more a series of cat naps so I'll probably go back to bed at some point. Still not feeling much like myself.

It is pouring here and quite cold. I had hoped to go out today but it isn't absolutely necessary so I'll wait for a nicer day?

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.

    Morning all.

Thanks for the news about Holly Nelski, not looking no now for her op. Good news too about nmlc's DM.

DM and I are off on her shopping expedition soon. We're meeting up with an old friend who will join us for coffee in the cafe. No doubt they'll talk a long time and then we'll go to view the almost finished renovation of his late DM's bungalow. Then I can head home.

A neighbour has agreed to have my unwanted chair :j so that's a worry off my mind. He'll put it in his holiday cottage where it'll be perfect.

Right, shower coming up. I hope everyone's doing st least OK or better. Love to TA's.

    Happy Saturday folks.

Dry here atm but rain due later on, OH is going to build the new gate but if it rains he can do that under the car port where it is dry.

I going to go out shopping with dd and get food for the week and something nice for tonight, Saturday is our special food night where we treat ourselves to something lovely and some wine.

Thank you for the good wishes re my friend, he has lost so much weight and is very confused but there is still a glimpse of him in there, he will be in rehab for weeks yet so a long journey to go.

Taff I love a diy shop too but me very favourite shop is an old fashioned hardware shop, I could spend hours in one of those, we are lucky to have two a car ride away and its a real treat when we visit :o

Glad Holly has settled well and this time sounds so much more relaxed than the other time sending love xx

TA thinking of you all xx

Specy hugs to you and your gran xx

    Have good days all xx

Good morning chums, grey and overcast here today in the Garden of England and rain forecast, but I am not too bothered as I shall be pottering around indoors this morning, and feet up and knitting this afternoon with the radio on and a pot of tea at my elbow ;)

Good and positive news about Holly, Nels, thanks for the update, hope your Granny improves Speky, and thinking of the TA's this morning and all of our other friends who are having a tough time at the moment

    Have a good weekend chums,

    JackieO xx
