Trying to get myself sorted.

Hi everyone, i'm new here.
Sorry if this is not the right place to post. I just need somewhere to vent my frustrations out and concerns out. Please don't judge me to much :(
A little bit about me..
My partner works 30 hours a week, while studying a physics degree at home via the open university. I am at home studying a Maths degree. We have three children.
My partner is on minimum wage and we claim housing benefit (or is it allowance- the one which helps you a little with rent) and we have working tax, child tax etc.
My partner's job is shift work and he does not get next week's rota until literally 3/4 days before the next week has began.
Because of my partners work it is extremely difficult for me to find work around the hours but because bills are slowly getting higher and im finding it increasingly harder to survive each week. I decided to try a bit of private tutoring.
I managed to get some work. Im only charging £9 a hour and it will just be termly.
Well anyway, I thought I better tell housing, tax credits and tax asap of my new job.
I know I might be over reacting, and emotional :'( but I ended up in tears after talking to housing. Yes it may seem silly. When I spoke to the lady on the phone she was so lovely. But she said that I would need to get letters from all those that I will tutor about how much they are paying me. Now, I am sat here in tears thinking how unprofessional its going to look to ask people to sign letters for my housing allowance/benefit claim and panicking about housing ringing these people (who just hired me to be having to do this for me). I also know a lot of people look down on those claiming benefits. I am really worried about asking potential clients to do this for me just because of the stigma :(
I worked out housing allowance/benefit im getting is £27 a week and I really feel like telling them I don't want to claim and try and get as much tutoring work I can get instead to save the bother. :(
However, if I can't get work, I really need the money. We are a in credit card debt ( never missed a payment) but at the moment just about managing.
Sorry for the rant, I feel better I've let this off my chest :(

Look at it the other way round. It's a professional thing to do to ask the people you tutor to sign an agreement stating what hours of tutoring you will provide and how much you will charge them. You don't need to tell them you need it as evidence for a benefits claim.

You should issue them with an invoice in advance and/or a receipt which you can mark as paid when it is.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • You should be charging a lot more for the tutoring.

As you are self employed you will need to fill in the councils form with projected income for the next 13 weeks/or actual income received for x weeks.

Your will also need to show the council your UTR number.

You possibly didn't speak to the assessment team as they wouldn't ask for letters from the students.
    - there isn't a need to know who you tutor only what you earn.

I'm sure that your pupils (or their parents) will appreciate that you need to keep a record for tax purposes, so there is no need to worry that they will think it strange if you invoice them.
