Yeah, there's a *need* to rant with that kind of inconsistency going on from XH! I'm glad for your sake its generally better than that, but ...

Thanks, Karma!
Today has been a write-off. Couple of minutes into meeting all-out war breaks out between DD and OH over polygons homework. I leave the meeting and it takes me most of the time to de-escalate matters, calm DD out and get her to re-do said homework! Cue cracking headache... Then this afternoon Word starts mysteriously highlighting text in black, which drives me crazy and I spend far too much time on internet forums trying to solve the problem (I haven't!) I just want a nap now!
But... we did have very MSE leftover chilli and rice in wraps with mashed avocado and cheese for lunch and the house is harmonious again. An NSD too (8 days to CC cut-off when I can adjust the budgets for next month - am currently at £333/£675 so looking very positive for having some additional cash to distribute to the various pots). Running down food stores ahead of Scotland trip, just need some bits for a visit to a friend on Saturday and car picnic for the big drive.Choose kind3 -
Shoppng done £48 including stuff for the 2 picnics, will get us through to Scotland next week. Tank of fuel to get there should mean I can get the CC in at £400-£450
That'll mean about £200 saved towards the building project. I'd also stopped TT-ing during the pandemic so am going to start that up again and then sweep the pennies into the OP at the end of the month.
UK Power Networks visited to today to survey for moving the consumer unit from the wall that's coming down to the outside. £1000 for their bit, plus taking up some concrete for the cabling. The meter box needs moving too but Tonik isn't replying to emailsI can see already the building projects are going to take up way too much of my mental bandwidth over the next few months, when DD will be back at school and I'll (probably) be back on campus or at least juggling a manic term of online teaching, meetings etc. Being the person that holds everything together is just exhausting.
On the positive side, Mum's insisted I actually take some days off work when we're in Scotland so have booked 3 of them as holiday. We'll be able to do some walking, which I love, but am also looking forward to reading fiction, listening to audio books and podcasts and mooching about!Choose kind3 -
Your Mum sounds like a star.
Good luck with Tonik - I hope you get a response soon.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Thanks!
Just walked down to pick up DD's report from school. She was there for 2 weeks before the school closed to all but keyworkers' kids so I was wondering how the teachers would manage to write a report. But they are absolutely spot on, celebrating her strengths and identifying her weaker points (not proofreading her work, rushing her maths and making small mistakes). Just love how sharp teachers are, such a massively underappreciated and unfairly represented profession and one that gets maligned and dumped on by governments and the parts of the media. She's also got the Y6 teacher she was really hoping for (we went into her class when we visited the school back in December and DD was just a bit starstruck!) We will have the usual forensic reading of the report once DD sees it - report days mean loooong conversations interpreting every word and what might be behind itChoose kind5 -
A lot of positives, Hazelnutty, they sound great. It's obvious that you know what the problems are going to be (manic schedule, building works etc ad infinitum). You can do it

Thanks, Kittenkirst! I am so ready for a break (in my 40s and still so looking forward to being looked after by my mum
)
I did a film for next year's students this morning - I'm happy to do it and only took half an hour but as an introvert performing takes so much out of me. I was pretty much useless for the rest of the morning. Only managed a couple of meetings this afternoon. One was more of a catch up with a former colleague, but DD interrupted and chatted happily to her (never met her before) about RuPaul's Drag Race
NSD, yay! OH picked up some milk and bread and a few other bits and some non-alcoholic gin so I can join in the picnic tomorrowKnackered and not looking forward to the drive but will be lovely to see our friends.

Hi all
Just got back from trip to old town. Managed to drop off a box of books and two large bags of clothes and other bits at the donation centre, pop in to see OH's parents in their garden and a just fab 4 hours with our friends. A bit squeaky pants on the fuel front but made to a petrol station near home with 5 miles showing on the range meter. £44 in the tank for Scotland, plus £10.50 in presents for our hosts (covered by a pot so all good).
Quite a bit to do before we leave so about to make a list (I doa list!)
