Halifax debit card Barclays ATM issue?

Anyone essle experiencing issues trying to draw out cash from a Barclays (or Barclays based - such as Asda) ATM with a Halifax issued card?


I've tried on two different days (few days apart) - haven't actually passed a Halifax to check.


Barclays debit card works fine.

Exactly what issue is being reported to you by the ATM?

Have you tried it in any other banks (apart from Halifax, which you haven't been past)?

Have you been able to make purchases with the card?

Could be anything at this point.

Is it a new card, and if so does it have a different first 6 digits to the previous one? If Halifax have started to issue a new prefix then it's possible some other banks' ATMs haven't yet been updated with that prefix.

No, not a new card.


Have used the card at the same ATM many times before.


My online account associated with that card seems fine, but I have to say, I've not purchased anything at a shop with it.


Goes all the way through to the amount I wish to withdraw but those requests would be rejected no matter the amount.



Says service not available and that the request has been cancelled.


Sounds like only my card?

Try it in another ATM

Well, sounds like the CHIP is working inasmuch as it is verifying your PIN. Try doing a balance enquiry at the ATM to see if that service works? I am of course assuming that you do have some money in the account.


Alternatively, give Halifax a call and quiz them.
