Acer Laptop problem?

Hi there, My son has an Acer Aspire 3690 laptop (bought about 1 year ago). Recently when using it I have noticed that the screen flickers a bit and sometimes goes dark. Has anyone got an idea as to why this is happening and if a problem, how to repair it.

There is a little swich that detects when the case is being closed. You can normally see it. It may be faulty.
My other suggestion is that maybe your power supply is loose and the laptop keeps turning on its power saving options.
There are probably other things also.0
