PCN - reg entered wrong on pay machine

Hi all.

My partner received a pcn today from the much loved Parking eye.

We was away in Clacton on sea and used the car park on Colne Road which is pay and display with Anpr.
I paid for all day parking (24hr) which was £10 but by mistake entered the last 3 digits of my vehicle into the machine instead of her vehicle.
Would there be any grounds to appeal or what would be the best way??
I still have the original ticket put in window.

Thanks.

Search the forum for wrong VRN to read loads of threads like yours, which will help.

We assume you've read NEWBIES PLEASE READ THESE FAQS FIRST - if not, do!

Was the PCN received by day 15, and does it have POFA wording on the back?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I wouldn't use the template appeal in your case, I would write your own then (online - not Royal Mail!) attaching the COPY PDT and saying what happened. Word it as a RECTIFICATION NOTICE under the GDPR (include that phrase) and tell them what happened and that they must now rectify their data to the right VRN which matches the ANPR image.

Also submit the same thing in the Privacy page contact, which goes to the Data Privacy Team. They MUST consider the data rectification request, and must reply.

I expect PE will offer to cancel it for £15 or so, which you might think worth saving the hassle. There is no point hiding behind the template in this instance.

Not saying you can't reject that and carry on, but it's an option.

  • Thanks very much for your help.

So I would have to do it via the appeals process?
Looked on there website and found the privacy contact.
My partner is the registered keeper what would be the best way to word it?
Is there any chance you could help me with a rough template?
Sorry to hassle you but I'm no good with things like this and don't want to use the wrong words.

    Thanks.

If this went to court a judge might consider it to be a trifling matter, and the Law does not concern itself with trifles.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_minimis

This is an entirely unregulated industry which is scamming the public with inflated claims for minor breaches of contracts for alleged parking offences, aided and abetted by a handful of low-rent solicitors.

Parking Eye, CPM, Smart, and another company have already been named and shamed, as has Gladstones Solicitors, and BW Legal, (these two law firms take hundreds of these cases to court each year). They lose most of them, and have been reported to the regulatory authority by an M.P.
    for unprofessional conduct

Hospital car parks and residential complex tickets have been especially mentioned.

The problem has become so rampant that MPs have agreed to enact a Bill to regulate these scammers. Watch the video of the Second Reading in the House of Commons recently

and complain in the most robust terms to your MP. With a fair wind they will be out of business by Christmas.
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

I did tell you above, exactly what the REGISTERED KEEPER must put, or you could search this forum (advanced search - show POSTS) for RECTIFICATION NOTICE and read all the other threads talking about the exact same thing. Copy one.
