BT Monopoly on my Postcode

Hi
I'm currently paying £57 per month for BT broadband. Just basic broadband. No TV, etc.
The switching sites don't recognise my postcode or say broadband isn't available in my area.
It's a new build. But I've lived here 18 months now and been using broadband all that time. We're not in a rural area either.
How can I get away from the BT rip of £57 if no one else says they provide my area?
I've called BT and the best they've offered is £38.99. This isn't competitive. Anyone any advice please?

Do you have fibre to the premises? If so, then most mainstream providers choose not to offer it, although Sky have recently announced that they intend to.0

As above it reads like you have FTTP service at that price.
BT do not have a monopoly its just no other ISPs want to provide . Get onto these ISPS and ask why they will not supply you .0 -

You've answered your own question I'm afraid. If it is FTTP what speed do you get? It may be that £38.99 is competitive.
Your only other option is Virgin if they're available.0 -
BT are not the only ISP that will supply you. You may not have heard of any of the others though.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230

@PixelPixxie
The switching sites cannot handle FTTP users ( I know because I am one).
There are several companies offering services over FTTP but none of the cheap ones have shown an interest. So prices are more expensive.
A partial list of suppliers can be found here https://www.homeandbusiness.openreach.co.uk/fibre-broadband/ultrafast-broadband/ultrafast-fibre-buy-it-now
And there are 2 other ISPs not listed there.
These are
IDNet https://www.idnet.com/data_products/super-fast-broadband.php
Freeola https://freeola.com/ultrafast-broadband/
You will need to go to the suppliers sites and check out the costs for yourself.
And also use just your postcode on the sites, always say you don't have/know your phone number.0 -

When I check with the sites listed they can't tell if I have FTTP or not. I get told to ring them and yet here I am having had it for about 2 years now.
I still have a copper wire into the house as the phone isn't over fibre so I'm considering going back to standard broadband. I'm not sure I can justify the expense of FTTP.0 -
I always input my postcode only and then select an address if offered. I don't have a phone number at all so cannot enter one. When I check with the sites listed they can't tell if I have FTTP or not. I get told to ring them and yet here I am having had it for about 2 years now.
.
The phone number does threw most sites as they look at the copper line only.0 -

Yup tried the postcode as well. I'm a bit reluctant to ring and listen to sales waffle before finding out its going to cost me a kings ransom to move.0 -
Well I can get IDNet, Freeola, BT, ZEN and AA to produce quotes from my postcode (and address when prompted).
Cerberus show pricing straight away but want a lot of details if you check availability, so I haven't.
Specturm Internet wanted a phone call but I believe they only support customers in South Wales or the South West so not on my radar.
The other 2 on the Ultrafast list were much too expensive last time I looked as they are primarily business ISPs.
Must be something else about your address that throws them. (Maybe the copper phone line on your property causing the sites to object)0 -
I'm in the same boat with my mother (in her 70s). She lives in a new estate in Amesbury (been there 2 years). All the properties only have FTTP.
BT want to hike the price to £51pm (inc calls). The best I could negotiate is £46pm for an 18 month contract. This is taking the p***. The person at BT practically said it's her own fault for moving to a property with FTTP. She can only have Fibre.
The Sky checker seems to say they can fit a line for £20. Maybe I'll go for that since it will probably cost them £200,000 to lay it.
Update: Might get her to dump her landline and switch to a mobile only. Can get 20gb per month on a sim only deal for £13 ish with unlimited calls/texts too. I have an old 4G phone she can use....0
