Scrapped car with no V5

Hi,
I've just scrapped a car without the V5 certificate.
I know I am supposed to contact DVLA and let them know I have scrapped the car.
I lost the V5 shortly after we moved and now I'm worried because I cannot remember if I updated the address on it.
If I write to the DVLA with my new address on it and it doesn't match their records are they likely to fine me.
I would get a replacement V5 but the cars gone now and I have nothing with the VIN number on.
Or do I just wait for the scrap company to notify them and get a certificate of destruction.
Thanks

Your better off doing the SORN online - so you wont get hit for any periods of no tax and hope the recycling yard do their bit and notify the DVLA.0

The car has been SORN'd since the tax ran out.
All I'm asking is if I write to the DVLA informing them the car has been scrapped and the address on my letter doesn't match the address they have on file are they likely to question this and try to fine me £10000 -
If you do not have a log book you must write to DVLA with:
your name and address
the vehicle registration number
the make and model
the exact date of sale
the name and address of the scrapyard or insurance company

From the DVLA web site - I would use your old address.0
