Received an email purportedly from 1&1 (coincidentally at the same time my account renewal was due). It looks extremely authentic and is signed from a Sebastien Gonzales. It requests to check your domain name with Whois data. This opens up a browser window where you input your domain name. So the check doen't bring any results back so I contacted 1&1 who confirm it's a scam.

By clicking the link am I likely to have compromised my laptop?

Currently running windows defender (Win10)

Windows defender didn't find anything and Malwarebytes quarantined 24 threats but found nothing else.

Could kick myself for checking the link :(

Possibly - But malwarebytes seems to have taken care of it ..

Lesson for future - Let your default behaviour assume that EVERY unexpected email is a phishing attempt
until you put your mind at rest.
