Paying in cheques via mobile apps - hopelessly broken?

A cheque paid in via the HSBC App won't show at all until it's cleared & funds are available. That can take until 11:59pm the next working day.0

I paid a personal cheque in successfully with HSBC.
But a larger (in physical size) business cheque was unsuccessful. I was told it's a known issue that is being worked on.
The cheque that I paid in to HSBC this morning was a large one (size rather than amount) and it was accepted first time.0
