ryanair - book early or wait for sales ?

Hi,

I am looking to travel to Romania in December and usually fly Ryanair to somewhere and get the train.

My problem is this:

Should I buy the Ryanair flights now (approx £60 incl taxes) or wait for a sale ?

They are to Bratislava, Dec 27th return Jan 3rd.

I dont know if Ryanair do sales for the Xmas/NY period, so maybe I should purchase now.

Many thanks in advance.

  • Sorry to change subject, but where in Romania are you going? I spent a couple of weeks there last summer and loved the country. Untouched. :D

    Hi Bjor,

I don't know what everyone else thinks, but I would be inclined to wait. Ryanair run promotions and sales so frequently that I'm sure something will come up between now and December. Obviously it's a risk, however, and £60 isn't bad (if that's the return price).

I presume you're travelling from Stansted? In case you're interested, SkyEurope also fly to Bratislava from Stansted and EasyJet fly there from Luton. Might give you some more options.

I would book now. Ryanair don't do sales for travel over the Christmas & NY period. The prices can only go up.

£25 of your fare is taxes which Ryanair rarely, if ever, reduce. Therefore you've got to ask whether the return price is likely to drip under £40. Personally given that it is between Christmas & NY and Bratislava is the access point for Vienna, I'd book now.

However I'd check the total cost of booking the flight as 2 single flights as opposed to one return flight as Ryanair sometimes add a few quid onto the return leg for return flights.

50% sale started today for travel Mon- Thurs. Dont know if this would include Xmas period. Would do no harn to re check prices. To be honest £60 inc. tax seems good considering the time of year. Id book now regardless

The current Ryanair sale is for travel up to 14th July. I'm waiting for late July to be announced

To be honest a best case scenario is usually around £35 return for Ryanair flights so I would be prepared to take the extra hit for the guarantee of a seat. I remember waiting in such a way a few years back and the plane sold out because I waited so long.

I think i'll book them soon then at least they are guaranteed seats. i am just loath to book things when they could go down in price (im learning !)

i guess i am getting used to buying seats for 99p e/w - £60 return isnt too bad i suppose !

    thanks to all
