Moving In - State of House

Big list of small things, a good number of which would be included in regular decoration prep.
Really not worth getting excited about; just get on with it and fix them.0 -
Seems most of this should have been obvious on viewing the house.
If the holes were caused by pictures or attaching things to the walls then yes, they should have been filled in, but if the holes were there when you viewed, for example a kid has swung a bat in to a wall, then they wouldn't be filled.
Yes it should have been cleaned but they may not have had time. If the removals van turned up late or they took longer to load for example then they have to be out by the time on the contract and if that doesn't allow for cleaning then it doesn't.0 -
It's frustrating, but quite a lot of moving kit lists have cleaning and repairing tackle near the top of the list.
I'll presume the house is weather tight, the doors lock & that all utilities are working, meter readings taken & reported, & you've tested the smoke alarm?
After that, it's all about making this place your home. And you'll be amazed what Stardrops will shift. Honest - go at these issues and by Christmas you'll barely remember the grouches.
Give yourself a chance, & enjoy your new home!0 -

Hi Guys,
So have just moved into a new place and everything is meant to be good, new exciting start and all that jazz, but the list of faults with the house is growing and growing.
When the previous owners left what are they legally meant to do?
For example from what I am think of off the top of my head right now;
-Kitchen sink is leaking into the cupboard below
-Loads of holes in the walls, were they meant to fill these in?
-Oven, Hob and Sonks have rust
-Extractor fan lights above the hob have had the wrong bulbs fitted so have broken or melted the plastic covers
-Broken shelves and light inside fridge
-Child lock on the window in bedroom 2 and the key has been lost, so the window can’t be opened properly or I’ll have to drill out the child lock...
-No boards in attic when it was supposed to
-Not been cleaned
-Child pen marks on multiple walls
The house was built in 2014 so I’m surprised there are so many faults! The house we have moved out of was built in 2011 and is in a much better state.
Just getting us a bit down really as this place is almost double the value of our old house so was hoping it was better!
Thanks in advance for any advice!
I'm struggling with this. How can anyone imagine that you can't legally sell a house with a leaky sink, rusty oven and holes and marks on the walls?!0 -
A very similar think happened to use when we move. We cleaned out old house from top to bottom lets the new owners a few beers and a game for there son. The house we baught was more then Double What we payed and we got left lots of dust spiders cracked electric sockets. So my misses got the hover out I got a screwdriver out and about 5 house later it was fine. (Could have changed the sockets in about 2 but not a fan of spiders )0
