Which is a cheaper way to wash up?

I've just had a spooky gas bill and was wondering whether it was cheaper to boil a flat element kettle up to do the washing up, rather than switch the gas boiler on as it's normally off. My home is 3 years old and the boiler is a modern, efficient one.
Any ideas please?

Most probably use the boiler, kettle uses about 3kw granted only for 2-3 minutes. Gas is cheaper the electric, most electric we get is generated by burning gas from power station0

Thanks for that. I was just a bit concerned at getting a gas bill for £120:00, covering the period 01/04/07 to 05/11/07. I live alone in a 2 bed flat and am hardly ever at home. I've had the heating on a few times but in recent months, the boiler is off unless I need it for the washing up.
Does my bill sound reasonable?0 -
Do you never have a bath or a shower?"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

Is this based on an actual reading or an estimated reading? If it's estimated, inform them ASAP of the actual reading to get a recalculated bill. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
No, that's why I feel it's a bigger bill than I ws expecting, it is based upon actual meter readings I've taken myself.
Regarding baths and showers, I only have showers and my shower is an electric unit over the bath. The only hot water I use is for washing up or the central heating.0 -
Ok, is the reading correct? Sometimes they get miskeyed onto the billing systems.
So, check it against your meter again just in case.
Have they been estimating your previous bills? If so, it could be catching up if your previous estimates have been too low.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
