who were CON M&G INS???

Hi,
In 1997 I took out a mortgage and endowment policy. My broker was attached to the estate agent and said I also had to take out MPPI even though I was on a fixed term contract and it would not have paid out if I lost my job.

My problem is
1) I do not know who the MPPI was with - my bank statements show payments to CON M&G INS RCA. Does anyone know who this is? The estate agents no longer exists and I have no paperwork for it. I stopped paying after a few years.
2) Am I too late to claim it back? I have read that PPI still had to be in place in 2007, this was not.

Any help much appreciated, thanks

  • It doesn't really matter who the payments were to, you make any complaint to whoever sold you the policy, which would be the broker.
Unfortunately, they won't have been regulated at the time and could dismiss complaint, even if they were still trading.

it doesnt matter who it is with. The provider has no liability for any complaint.

You are not too late as there was never a period you could complain about it as regulation of estate agents/mortgage brokers didn't start until January 2005.

I know that is a repeat of the post above but just giving you a second response to verify it is correct.

    1) You complain to the seller, it was miss-sold - the person providing the product isn't liable unless it was their salesman doing the sale.
    2) Sold by a broker pre-2005 then you're out of luck, the seller was not regulated so doesn't need to look at the complaint.
    3) Stopping paying/cancelling the policy is sufficient to trigger a time bar anyway
    4) You're thinking of Plevin complaints for the 2007 thing and thus Plevin doesn't apply to you

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Also, whilst Plevin does apply to adviser/broker/agent sales in terms of qualification in respect of the 2008 rule, it is worth noting that their sales would not breach the tipping point. So, even if held into 2008 or after, there still would not have been a payout.
