Free Cavity Wall Insulation - Aran Energy
Hi
I live in Scotland, and was given a quote last year by Grant Assessments Ltd (who work in conjunction with Aran Energy Services) for free cavity wall insulation - they were going door to door in our area and carried out a survey of our property. I was advised that I was eligible for a grant for the full cost of the work. This is despite the fact that every company I've contacted (e.g. Energy Saving Trust, Home Energy Scotland) have advised that I'm not eligible for a grant, only a loan to pay for the work.
So the promise of free insulation sounded too good to be true, and I asked Grant Assessments Ltd for more information. They didn't provide it, and nor did Aran Energy Services. I've contacted them 2-3 times over the last 12 months and they've just replied this week to say that I am still eligible.
Has anyone had free cavity wall insulation installed by Aran Energy Services?
Thanks,
Chris

Does anyone have any experience with Grant Assessments Ltd or Aran Energy Services?0 -
We once had a similar thing with someone turning up at the door saying we were eligible. I told them I'd think about it, then read up about it and came to the conclusion it provided more problems and was advised against it. Also in our garage the pipes from behind the bath go through into the garage through a large hole in the wall, so anyone pumping in insulation would have ended up filling up our entire garage with the stuff.
But a week later was woken up at 7am by two blokes outside saying they were here to do the job. I'd never agreed to it, told them as much but they said that was nothing to do with them, they get paid by doing the job and refused to move from my driveway until they'd done it. Luckily I remembered the hole that made the job impossible and showed it to them and they whimpered off saying I've got a few days to fix the hole and they'll be back.
When I rang up the company apparently I'd "verbally agreed" to have it done and they'd signed the contract on my behalf. I did no such thing.
