Debenhams cancel Personal Shopping Experience Twice - Should I worry?

For Christmas, both my wife and I received a Personal Shopping Experience voucher and experience. We haven't spent it straight away because we wanted to save it for going away for our 4th wedding anniversary.

We booked the first try online at the Derby store, a few days before (and the week with all of the negative press) we were told that the girl was sick and that we would have to re-book, we did so for 13th October, as a way of apologising they said we could have 10% discount.

So yesterday, (3rd October 2018, another call from Debenhams in Derby. We were told that the girl who would be doing our personal shopping experience would be off sick on the 13th October and that the diary was quite full and we would have to ring another day to get booked in. Again, to apologise we were now told that we would get 20% off Debenhams clothes and 10% off concessions.

We now cannot possibly do this before we go away but our main worry is that Debenhams are in trouble and our vouchers, worth quite a lot of money, may not be usable if they slip into administration.

Should we just spend the vouchers ASAP and forget about the whole personal shopping experience? We just feel bad for the people who purchased this for us.

Thoughts would be appreciated.

  • I work at Debenhams, and have heard nothing about administration. I wouldn’t worry about your vouchers not being valid (a la House Of Fraiser). I would say that the personal shopping lady is off sick long term. How could she say that she would be ill 10 days in advance? Do they only have one person trained to offer this service?

I think for your options: ask when they service will be avaliable again, for certain.
Go to a different Debenhams in another city (although this is inconvenient)
Ask for the cost of the personal shopping experience to be exchanged for a gift card, as they have given you bad service.

Are you going overseas for your anniversary? If your staying in the uk how about trying at the Debenhams closest to your city?

Do you honestly think you would be told in advance ?
Employees will get exactly same notice as anyone else
