Old Style Daily Thursday 4th October

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning everyone :hello:
I am firmly in the 'no-sleep' club today so I thought I would start us all off this morning. I've just got off the phone to the Crisis team and actually spoke to a lovely woman who actually made sense and stopped me being upset. I even had a bit of a giggle with her by the end of the call which was great. I wish they were all like her that's for sure.
Today, Lee has a very important meeting with his psychiatrist and me and Steve are expected to attend to support him. Unfortunately, I cannot physically or mentally leave my house anymore and every time I have said to Steve that I can't go he just says that it will be alright and that I will manage somehow:(. I don't seem to have got through to him how severe my agrophobia has got or he just isn't listening. I feel awful for letting Lee down as it is and I don't want a cross and grumpy husband either. I don't know what I can do, hence the not sleeping.
I am trawling the net for new recipes again especially for lunches as on Slimming World, bread is limited and sandwiches are pretty boring anyway. I have all the ingredients to make some pakora and dipping sauce so will make those later. Jemima came round yesterday and told me she has joined a Slimming World class so I will have someone to experiment on now.
Thinking of all our online friends here who are going through such hard times especially the TA's, I hope you all find some comfort and peace in your lives. It breaks my heart to read all about your tough times but it is empowering to know we are all in this life together and we have such great support from each other.
Take care everyone xx0 -
Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread Dumpling.
I don't think there is much mileage in hoping that you can manage to go to the appointment but I hope that your family will understand that this is not a choice for you.
I woke at 3 but stayed in bed until 4, trying to get back to sleep but now I've given up on that and pottering on the net while the washing machine does its thing.
I spoke to my mother twice yesterday. She was pleasant but managed to raise a couple of grievances with other people (not me this time) but I was quite sad to realise that she didn't ask after my OH or DS at all the second call was to thank me for flowers that I had delivered.
No interesting plans today. Yesterday I blitzed the bathroom and I might have a go at the kitchen but then again I might not. I must sort out my wintery clothes at some point.
Thinking of the TA family, ~taff and poppy and of all of us who might be struggling at present. I imagine Hollyharvey will be in hospital now and am sending supportive thoughts.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning All
Sorry you're not so good dumpling, hope you feel stronger soon.
Hope your Gran improves soon Speky, the job will sort itself out, just bad timing.
Had the dreaded smear test yesterday, not pleasant but so necessary. Felt a bit 'off' last night but fighting fit again this morning. I'm off for a swim, it makes me feel so much better.
Love to the TAs and hugs to anyone else in need. How are you tru?
Happy Thursday, take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone
dumpling - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit.
Dinner last night was sausage, bacon, egg, mushrooms and beans, tonight will be pork steaks, mash, veg and gravy.
Now on days' off, and have a mega "to do" list, so will just work my way through it steadily, the first wash load is in the machine already, hoping it will be finished before I need to leave the house then I'll peg it out on the line and get the next load in, there's several loads to do, house is a complete tip and needs sorting. Work looks like it's going to be tough in the coming days/weeks as now staff are dropping due to stress.
I have some admin tasks to do also. I'll be heading to the garage first to drop my car off, needs to have a fault sorted, I have a courtesy car booked so will then go to town from there and visit the bank and building society, then home and crack on with the "to do" list.
Keep safe and well x

Morning
Not much sleep here so still feel tired. Could do without that as its the annual book club visit to see the queenHope she's read this months book. Lots planned including the sky garden and afternoon tea on the thames. No doubt there will be a couple of proseccos to partake in throughout the trip.
Glad I went to pick up the tickets yesterday as the machine took ages just spitting them out over 40 in the end. Took me ages to sort them all out thats a couple of trees killed.
Anyway update on Holly...she went to hospital as planned yesterday. Course nothing is ever simple and she has run up against a junior doctor who wouldn't prescribe her medication. Now I am sure his intent was good but if anyone is an expert on Holly's medication its Holly. She is seeing a consultant today so hoping he will sort this out otherwise she will walkShe was able to ring last night which was great so hoping we can keep in touch as and when she needs to this time.

Morning Everyone,
My life at present seems to be 2 steps forwards and 50 back.
The new offer on DM's house - the prospective buyer still has not come forward with the paperwork, and the market for selling properties has gone quiet.
Sending best wishes to Holly
Speky Hope your gran is improving

Good morning, and it seems like a quiet, fine start here. It's 14 degrees. quite warm. Thanks for starting Dumpling.
I haven't posted for a day or two, and just quickly read back late last night, so not quite up to speed with everyone.
So sorry to hear you're not well Dumpling, it's good that you were able to talk to someone from the Crisis team.
Hope your cold is about gone AOD. My Dad didn't used to ask after people either, in extreme old age. He used to say he was only interested in himself!! I suppose it's good to know where you stand with people! He was a difficult man, and was hard to deal with.
Camelot, I think all women hate the smear test, I did.
NMLC, you're back in the old routine, doesn't take long does it.
Nelski, hope your visit to HM goes well, thanks for the Holly update.
Silver-oldie, my Dad sometimes used to announce that he wasn't going to talk to me. Once, he did this after I gone to see him after a long day at work (he just lived a short distance away so it was easy for me to visit every day), and he said this, so I just said "I might as well go home then", and did. When I went the next morning he was ok, but didn't refer to it.
Speky, sorry to hear about your Grandma.
Got a few jobs to do today, some sewing, and general "stuff". I've had a few bad nights lately, sick of waking up in the middle of the night.
Thinking of the TA's and others who are not well.
Take care folks0 -
I woke with a headache and this cold seems to be giving a few different aches and pains, so apologies in advance if I miss out anyone's name.
Nannie - I have filled the hug bucket to the top, you are due a healthy dose back,
Specky - Best wishes to your dear Gran, I hope that a path will become clear regarding the job.
Dumpling - thanks for the new thread, pleased that you had someone to talk to.
Holly- fingers crossed for some sense from the medics.
OL - Sending you strength for your dealings with the Prodigal, all you Mothers are amazing.
Also thinking of the TAs, Poppy and taff.
Have the best day you can everyone.
Today is my session with the PT, not feeling at all like it, but since I have to pay for short notice cancellation anyway I will make an effort and will ease back if too much of me protests:( Heading off for a few days break in new caravan tomorrow, only about an hour away so no early start:D 6 nights so not too much to pack, just some warm layers and waterproofs for Saturday according to the forecast. I will take something for Friday's supper and then on Saturday have a huge treat of a visit to Waitrose and M&S Food for the rest of the main courses.:jThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.
