What are my rights here if any?

Hi there,

We got an ipad from Stone computers at end of January this year, only got around to getting Ipad totally setup now, as its for our autistic child, and he was using an older ipad 3.

It came with a rugged case and a tempered glass screen protector, disappointed to find that glass screen protector was cracked in several places, when we took it out of packaging. Ipad works fine.

Stone computers simply don't want to know or replace the screen protector, they say that too much time has elapsed.

I know that probably I should have checked sooner, but surely I have some rights here through the sale of goods act, and item not fit for purpose.

We did get a desktop computer through family fund with Stone computers before, but had to return it three times just after arrival as it didn't work properly, so not a great track record with this company.

Just wondering if I have any rights as regards the tempered glass screen though. I do realise they are not expensive to buy, but probably I feel its the principle of the thing as well.

Many thanks for any advice.

It's now more than 6 months since purchase, therefore it's for you to prove the fault existed at purchase not for the seller to disprove it.

Probably easier just to buy a new screen protector off Amazon or Ebay.
  • the screen protector is not part of the product. As such, the iPad itself would be working fine, you wont be entitled to a refund. Not the retailers fault.

I don't get this as the customer never mentioned about the iPad being faulty and they don't want a refund for that. The screen protector was from the same retailer, and if smashed when bought from the retailer then of course it is their fault and would be entitled to a refund. It is simply too long to prove that though.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Why would someone not check a purchase as soon as it's bought?

This is not even seeing whether it works, but finding the thing damaged.

Justaquestion: Just a question, how can you prove to Stone's that you didn't crack the screen protector (after all, thats what it is there for, to take the hit over the ipad screen) and are now wanting a replacement?

    Thanks all for replies.

I did check the iPad when I got it to make sure it was ok and switching on but not totally seup, I got a rubber case as well, Screen protector to me seemed to be in a sealed plastic package with writing on back and front, so didn't want to open package until I actually wanted to use the screen protector as they are quite delicate.

it did turn out that package is not actually totally sealed, I could have opened it, but thee you go, my fault. I thought they might replace it as a goodwill gesture but no, it is not covered by warranty. I have checked with the manufactures who sell this as well and it really does seem that there is no guarantee whatsoever with a screen protector.

We haven't have had much luck with stuff from Stone as a computer we got three years ago, had to be returned three times within a short time that we got it, with same hardware fault.

On third time they had fixed the fault but a panel of the tower was hanging off at front, when we got it back. Luckily I was able to push it back in place.

So having a look at ebay and seen this,

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tempered-Glass-Genuine-Screen-Protector-For-Apple-iPad-9-7-inch-2018/113277961907?_trkparms=aid%3D555017%26algo%3DPL.CASSINI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20151005190540%26meid%3Dcc3774213cb742d0bfb285bc0a89f1d0%26pid%3D100505%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26%26itm%3D113277961907&_trksid=p2045573.c100505.m3226

Does this seem ok for the new 9.7 ipad and a broader question is, does a tempered screen give the Ipad screen much protection, or more trouble than its worth if you want to take it off.

    Thanks for the excellent advice.

If you're after a really good case, I've used a Griffin Survivor case on an ipad for the last 6 years. Incredibly rugged and has coped with a child dropping it, spilling on it, being on the beach, and pretty much every bit of abuse you can think of.

Thanks for that, I got this ipad 9.7 inch screen at start of year, I usually see it called new ipad 2017 or something like that, so that I can choose the right Griffin case, is ipad 9.7 inch 2017 the right description to look for when searching for case to fit it?

    Thanks

Look on the back of the iPad it will have the model etched (very small) on the back.
