Hi all
I need a prog - for free if possible that can convert encoded wma files to mp3.
Yes there sre lots out there but they change a wma file of 2mb to 20mb or even bigger.
the reason for this - a friend of mine has a site with audio downloads - speech -not music and the mac users cant open them.
I did find a prog that would play the files and rerecord them at the same time in mp3 - at about the same file size - but to do it correctly they wanted ccard details - and as I hadnt heard of the company I didnt want to risk it.
another solution would be for the mac users to be able to convert on their machines - if anyone knows of a prog to do this - but as I havnt got a mac I cant test this out
one of the files can be found

thanks

I'm pretty sure that iTunes will let you do this, and that is free..Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0

thats what i thought but it seems that its only itunes windows that lets you do it (or so it looks) i havent got a mac to be able to test this tho

trouble with wma is they contain microsft's own tag's to store artist, name & when it's been played etc MS has loads of control over what companise it will let use the wma format.
Best thing to do is use windows media player to convert them to wav and then use any free software to convert them to what you want. Or use windows media player to convert them to mp3.
If it won't you may need to look more for audio editor's to open & save as wav or mp3.
maybe cooledit or soundforge0 -
this is about the best conversion program i've ever used - fast too, i think they have a fully functional trial for free. if you like it and don't wanna pay, there's plenty of places to get a free full version! :money:0

dbpoweramp will convert loads of things for you, you may need to download some codecs but i believe you should be ok.
Will take some time to convert all your music tho.
It is a very powerful (and free) program tho!
Enjoy

I think there's a small charge for the mp3 encoder license in dbpoweramp Music Converter. It's only a trial license in the download.0

There is a version of Windows Media Player for the Mac that plays wma. However Getting some Apple Mac owners to install anything Microsoft on their computers is not the easiest task

If you have Nero Burning ROM on your PC, you can get loads of audio plug-ins from HERE which will then allow you to convert pretty much most formats to pretty much any other format. This space has been intentionally left blank0
