EON Stops installing SMET2 Smart meters in the north

My installer has just informed me that although the call centre confirmed the installation was going to be SMET2 they have suspended installing them above Sheffield.

The reason given was that in the north SMET2 relies on radio not mobile data and Arqiva are having issues.

This was mentioned some time ago on other forums. From a supplier's point of view, there is no point in installing smart meters that cannot communicate with anybody.

That said, Arqiva has a different view:

We’ve already demonstrated that our solution will connect to over 99% of smart energy and water meters wherever they are using a single long-range radio technology. This spans urban and rural locations, all property types and all meter locations. Our technology is also proven at scale, based on over 37 million meters and devices connected internationally.

Hello Techy1234 and welcome to the Forums.

To be honest, I've not come across this one yet. I'll ask the question and find out what the situation is. I'll come back to you next week with some more information.

    Thank you.

Hello Techy1234 and following on from my post last Friday. I've had it confirmed, installations of SMETS2 in the north are currently on hold.

This is due to the way the meters are being communicated with via the Communication Service Provider for the area. We're working to sort this out as a priority. I don't have a timeframe yet.

Sorry for the delay Techy1234 and thank you for highlighting this.

The DCC is on record (as of last week) as saying that the Northern sector is fully up and running.
