Car - salvage value v's payout

Hi
My car has been declared total loss and I have been offered £4000 - £100 excess = £3900
As is it Cat N I was thinking about keeping it and fixing it as I wont get a like for like for £3900.

I asked for the salvage value which they told me was £600
So I assumed keep the car and get £3300 back?

NOT the case apparently my insurance company take 35% (£1365) off of the £3900 if I keep the car so effectively double the salvage value?? I was asked why so much and the answer was 'you will get more for it if you scrap it yourself than we would'

But twice as much really??? I have Copart calling me daily trying to arrange collection of the car (this was before I was even told it was written off!) but I am waiting for the engineer to call me to discuss 'my options'

Is this standard procedure does anyone know? I'm sure when my mums car was written off a few years back she got the amount offered minus the scrap value not a set 35% or similar.

Thanks

I got offered nearly full value as was worth around 150 scrap less 75 collection and admin so think they took 75 off the value. Tell them to come and get it then and you want courtesy car till they collect and pay
