Ineffective boiler repair

The gas boiler has has been intermittently shutting down over the past few weeks. Had a gas registered engineer out to look at it a week ago. They advised that it needed a new ‘valve’, which was replaced yesterday and full service carried out. Within an hour of them leaving the house the boiler again shut down and when it was working is making a noise like a dog barking! Obviously they have to come back and sort this out, and fortunately I haven’t paid the £400 bill yet. I want to be prepared for if they start saying that I have to pay the bill if they can’t solve the problem. Can I legally refuse to pay?

    You can't legally refuse to pay for the service, but you can withhold the payment for the repair that hasn't been carried out.
    The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

    How can he withhold payment if the valve has been replaced ? This might be a completely new fault, lots of times one fault causes another
    I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
