Electron Demise!

Hi everyone!
I'm new to this forum and am finding it really informative ...
I have found out today that there are now two uk banks that have abolished electron cards and now issue 2-in-1 visa debit cards instead.
Anyone with a LLoydsTSB or Alliance & Leicester electron card will automatically have it replaced with a 2-in-1 visa debit when the current card expires.
My question is ... are there any other banks that are planning on doing the same??
Wouldn't it be great if all those yucky electron cards were magically transformed into visa debit cards!
So now we know LLoyds and A&L are doing it, does anyone know of any others?
Thanks for any help with this.

I hope not! I have just specifically opened a Halifax cardcash account to get an Electron card as I book a lot of Ryanair flights and fed up lining their pockets in charges all the time! (I already have an interest-paying "normal" current account with full debit card).0 -
I dount Electron will die.
Its a great card that helps BR's when they cant get a normal VISA debit card. What my happen is that banks who dont want BR's/People with poor credit or Youngsters as customers will get rid of Electron or Maestro and go with normal VISA.
Mind you thats a silly idea because Youngsters become students who become good well paid customers (Well thats the idea)..... Its an odd one...0 -
Funny I got a letter from A & L today saying i'd been upgraded to a visa debit card? So its not the 3in 1 function in saying that no ones uses cheques now right?Isn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?0

Halifax treat Electron users like scum now. I went into a small branch to pay some money in to my account and I was singled out and advised I would have to make my deposit through a letterbox shaped hole they had cut in the wall now as cardcash customers don't get counter service - don't want those filty blue card holders clogging up the Q now do we.
I've gone back to Abbey. I'm not good enough to have counter service from Halifax bank but strangely good enough for Halifax to give me a Mastercard with Two grand limit - very odd.
Up until not the penalties for having a cardcash account have been back office (chq clearing times etc) but this is the first time they've singled certain customers out on the floor and I personally think it's wrong, especailly as the bank receives a financial incentive from the govt to provide basic banking services for those of us that aren't able to go elsewhere.0 -
The new 2in1 Debit card that LTSB are now issuing to Electron customers is not a standard debit card.
The card is known as a control card and works in the same way as the Electron card by authorising each transaction. The processing system changed - that's all.
It's still meant for children and those with poor credit history.Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right!0
