Had an account with First Direct 3 months ago - am I eligible for the switch bonus they're offering?

Options
I expect the answer is probably no, but I've searched and cannot find anything that says I'll be ineligible.

To get the 'hello' gift you need to open a 1st Account, switch your everyday banking to us using the Current Account Switch Service and pay in at least £1,000 within three months of opening the account. You must be over 18 to open an account. Once you've met all the criteria, within 14 days you will receive an email with a unique registration code and instructions about how you can choose your gift. You can choose from one of our tech gifts, Online courses or Expedia voucher so there are different timings for when you'll receive your gift. But you'll have 90 days from when you complete your gift registration to choose your gift. This offer is limited to one item per customer or joint account and we can only offer this to people who haven't previously held an account with us. We reserve the right to refuse your application and extend or withdraw this offer at any time. Credit is subject to status.

    Seems clear to me?

  • No you can’t.
  • And it's any sort of account e.g. a long-closed credit card which will disqualify you.

Not sure where you're quoting "existing account" from but as per the Ts & Cs quoted further back, the test is whether you've ever had an account with them, not whether you currently hold one.

FD has always had the view that if you've ever held an account with them, then you can't get a switching bonus... and from what I've heard, they have long memories
