    Probably the wrong board.

This is a priority debt, and not paying it will result in a liability order with associated costs of maybe £80.

You may then be able to spread it a bit more but it's not a very mse way of dealing with it. I have helped people who already have liability orders to spread payments until the end of the following year, so in your case a year and 10 months spread over 17 months.

The suggestion of using a 0% card is not a bad one if that option is open to you.

And making a payment this month is also a good idea - you can probably do it via their website

Jill, as a trainee nurse you wouldn't happen to be counted as a full time student by any chance...? If you do you can claim the student exemption from council tax. I'm a student so I do this.

If you stick around you'll learn a lot about finances - just remember you don't have to justify yourself to anyone here :) Some people do like a bit of an argument (myself included sometimes! We're all human...).

Even if you don't qualify for the full time student exemption, make sure to claim the 25% single person discount (I'm assuming you live alone).

    Good spot.

    You're a student if you're:
◾attending a university or college course which lasts at least one academic year, takes at least 24 weeks a year and involves at least 21 hours of study a week when in attendance
◾under 20 years of age, studying for more than three months and at least 12 hours a week for a qualification up to A Level (if you leave after 1 May, we will not count you until the following 1 November)
◾a student nurse on a university course
◾a foreign language assistant registered with the Central Bureau for Educational Visits and Exchanges
◾a non-British spouse or dependant of a student and you are prevented by the terms of UK entry from taking paid employment or from claiming benefits

Just phone them, tell them you can't afford it and ask to pay it over a longer period. They will probably be ok with it. If they are only open when you are at work you may have to put a holiday in or explain to your boss and see if they will let you call while at work.
    Make £10 per day-

They may well know the OP is a disregarded student - any reduction should be shown on the demand notice. A disregard will apply which may give a discount or exemption depending on who else is resident in the property but the easiest way is to call them and ask.

They've spread the charge to March, it's unlikely that it would be spread further where a liability order is not in place.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

We just moved house and got our new council tax bill on the 29th Sept with our first payment due in November. Skipping October made our monthly bill higher so I just took the full amount due and divided it by all the months left, including Oct to reduce our monthly payment and then paid Oct's.

If you don't get any discount, I would definitely get an Oct payment in.
