  • I’ve known the plumber for over a year and trusted him and his assistant. The asisistent was alone in the room, I only had a few things in there and no one else has been in that room and it’s missing.

I really don’t know what to do as they have been doing a few jobs in the house and will come back in a couple of months to finish off to which they will send me a invoice but I don’t like the fact they have stole From me.

As EachPenny said, speak to the plumber (now while memory is fresh). And say when it happened and ask what the plumber thought about your accusation.

A long while back we had a similar but worse situation arise. We were having downstairs flooring fitted by a lovely chap, who had a mates young lad in as his 'oppo. Anyway (I can no longer remember the exact sequence) we spotted the young lad upstairs. When we asked what he was doing he said looking for the loo, we had a downstairs bathroom and told him that. Later on we went looking for the cash to pay the floorer (it had been tucked away in a drawer upstairs) and lo and behold it was gone. We had to tell the guy what we'd seen and how there was now no cash and so couldn't pay him. He basically said he understood and knew the lad had taken it as he'd been a bit wayward in the past and he was helping a mate out by giving him work.

A really horrible situation which fortunately was dealt with well by our floorer. A lesson learnt, but I'm not sure if you take up your loss with your plumber whether he'll say a similar thing.

Good luck. Worse come to worse pay him off and get another plumber in.

but I cannot find it so he has stolen it.

Absolutely unacceptable accusation. Just because you can't find it you automatically accuse someone of theft.

Peoples careers can be ended on such accusations.

You need proof and then you need to get the police involved.

Until you know for definite, hold your tongue and pointing finger.

Over a bottle of after shave. Really?

People really need to use a bit of common. We all know how badly funded they are currently. If police time wasnt wasted with such trivial matters then they might be arround to deal with the significant crimes.

Ask them if they moved it, if nothing then tell the plumber that you wont want the assistant back next time.
  • I’ve known him nearly two years what’s seen to be the problem.

It's frankly an outrageous accusation to make with absolutely no evidence nor even a good reason to believe that he has stolen it.
  • Risteard,

Your not the one with a £40 aftershave been taken from your house. I genuinely asked for some advise as someone has stolen something from me and I’m in a situation where I do not know what to do as the plumber is a nice genuine guy, it’s his assistant that has stolen from me.

When tradesmen were doing big jobs at my house the front door used to stay open for hours at a time. If anything tempting had been left in view on the ground floor, any passing leaflet dropper could possibly have taken it. I'd be careful before making accusations.
  • I’ve only had the plumber and his asistant in this week, no body else. It’s hard to accept this has happened to me but it’s definately gone.
