Hob dial got stuck

I hope I can describe this clearly, I don't know the correct terms (if there are any):
We have a gas hob (Siemens). When you push the dials which regulate the heat/gasflow, then they ignite the flame (cklicking sound). One of the dials got kind of stuck, so that the ignition works continuously. After a while and a bit of oil I managed to pull out the knob (the actual metal peace inside after removing the plastic cover), however, the ignition still works continuously.
As a quick workaround I switched off the fuse of the oven, but no we also have no oven...
Is that a known problem and can be fixed easily (DIY)?

Does the hob ignite? The ignition usually cuts off when that particular ring ignites by using a flame rod to detect flame. Maybe it is this that is faulty not the switch/knob/dial.0

Yes, it does ignite. But I don't think that it ever had this "auto switch off". When continuing to press the knob, the ignition would always continue, even with flame (for all 4 hobs)0

Has this started very recently? What used to happen with ours was that water would get into the ignition electronics when cleaning the hob & that would cause continuous sparking. Leave it for a couple of days & it would dry out.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Yes, started just recently. I'll try it out, thanks for the tip.0
