Am having trouble accessing websites including MSE, keeps coming as "We cannot connect to the server at ************* etc. This is on all sites I have tried.
My emails are coming through,, I can access the web via my tablet, but not on my desktop PC, so the server can be found.
I am using WiFi to desktop and tablet, have moved Wi-Fi dongle to different positions but same result.
Any ideas what could be causing this problem?
I am using Firefox Quantum 62.0.2 (64_bit). "Firefox is up to date"
I have tried Internet Explorer, IE 11, (11.0.9600.18426) with similar results, although it gave a troubleshooter option which then stated "the DNS server is.t responding"
I am posting this on my tablet, and it is painstaking.

Right click on the wifi symbol at the bottom right of the screen.
Choose "Troubleshoot problems"
That will reset the adapter, amongst other stuff .. Let us know if that fixes your problem or not0 -

I was assuming that would have come up as a pop up, but it did not, although as in my OP it did with IE.
I have tried that and get, "troubleshooting could not identify the problem.
I have booted up an old computer, (hard wired, XP not supported), and that is working, posted this reply via old computer.
Could it be my WI-Fi dongle as my tablet and Smart TV works OK via Wi-Fi ?

Presumably the problem is with your desktop only, and your tablet is OK?
If it affects your tablet too - look at your router (you say dongle - I presume you mean router).
If only that desktop, try eliminating any browser plugins / settings by running firefox in private mode.
You can also create a new temporary windows account and see if that also has the same problem. If it works OK, some setting ot something installed in your account is causing the problem.... then stated "the DNS server is.t responding"
This suggests a router problem. Do you know how to access your router?
If so change the DNS addresses in your router to google's DNS server:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

This would also eliminate any problems your ISP is causing re DNS.
There's a lot more that can be done, but try these first.0 -

Yes the problem is only with the desktop, (Windows 7 Professional), by dongle I mean the little wi-fi plug in that goes into a USB port on my desktop.
I cannot see it being the router as I can access internet,(Wi-Fi), via tablet, Smart TV and old XP computer.

OK that helps.
Can you eliminate the dongle by connecting your desktop to the router using an ethernet cable?0 -

That was to be my next port of call, but it is a bit of a faff.
However I have just done a restart and I have the internet back.
