Scaffolding across my property

Not even sure if this is the right section tbh so apologies in advance

Can home from a weekend away to find that my neighbours are having some work done to the front of their house. The only problem is the flat boards go nearly right across my bathroom window and part of the scaffolding supports are testing on the tiles of our rubbish bunker next to the house.

Surely they should have got my permission to do this before just incroaching on to my property?

Just really p’d off to come home to all this with no word of warning

Do you normally speak to your neighbour, that is do you have a good relationship with them? if so supprised they did not mention this was happening.

Wow, that's annoying, but I don't think they "have" to let you know or ask your permissions unless the footings are on your land, but it would have been a friendly courtesy on their behalf.

Don't get too antsy about it, your longer term relationship with your neighbour is more important than your need for a short term vent, who knows you may need to do the same to your house in time. Just ask them friendly what they are having done, and let them know the scaffold is a bit close to your window/bunker and you hope they're taking a precaution/insurance against your property accidentally damaged.
(Although I could be wrong, I often am.)
  • Provided that the scaffolding isn't going to be there for very long then I personally wouldn't worry too much about the bathroom window being covered.
I would however worry about this:

I know from experience that scaffolding often moves slightly (my neighbour had scaffolding up with moved and damaged my guttering and facia boards) and this could possibly damage the tiles on the bunker.

I would insist that the scaffolders reposition it so that there was no possibility of it causing damage to any part of your property.
