What to do with my pcn??

Morning all,

I have recently received a parking charge notice from Met Parking Services. I have 2 ways to go about it. Following the steps on “newbies thread” and the other is that the driver wasn’t me as it was my cousin who came to visit me for a couple of weeks but lives abroad. My cousin can speak a little english but not so much on reading. He stayed an extra 73mins at 90mins free parking in mcdonalds carpark on the A10. The location is always busy and have seen sign and that its well lit. There and delivery trucks that are constantly there that sometime obstruct the view of some of the signages. I have about 9 days before the 14 day period is up.

On the newbies thread copying the blue letter template, do i still put my address at the bottom of the letter with my name for them to get in contact with me, that part was confusing?

Sending MPS mu cousings details would they need to provide them with anything else other than his name and address?

A few of my mates have said to just ignore anything from MPS, but there experiences with PPC were all before 2015 so not so sure about ignoring them as i cant find many thread about ignoring Parking charge notices for overstaying.

  • You see plenty of threads from people who ignored they parking charges. All of them get told they did the wrong thing.

Of course you give them your address - AS THE KEEPER. Not providing name and address gives the PPC the justifiable excuse to say you never appealed.

nobody here will tell you to IGNORE a pcn, that is why you found nothing

because this driver is not living in the UK, give the parking company the drivers details and their address in their own country for service of papers

that way the KEEPER cannot be held liable and the driver is not under the jurisdiction of the english or welsh courts

the 14 days is irrelevant, like the NEWBIES sticky thread mentions

you have 28 days as keeper to either appeal it as KEEPER, (AND POSSIBLY BE LIABLE UNDER POFA2012) , or YOU NAME THE DRIVER and give their foreign address

IGNORE your stoopid m8s, their advice could see you with a bill of a couple of hundred pounds which I doubt that any of them will pay

    Thank you Redx

I will speak with my cousin to let him know, which won't be a problem. Is there something i need to do to get this "own country for service of papers" as i can't find what that is or would just his name and address abroad be sufficient?

All that is needed is the name and address. Send it to the PPC by post and get a certificate of posting. Do not send it signed for. Job done.
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

JUST HIS NAME AND ADDRESS , stating that he is the driver and so under POFA2012 you are no longer liable for the charge

also add the pcn reference to your reply

    so short and simple

you are naming the driver who lives abroad, here is his name and address, and the pcn reference is ##0123456789###

check your NTK again, it should state that you can either appeal or name the driver, you are not appealing so are naming the driver instead

and as stated above, get a free certificate of posting and keep it with a copy of this latter naming the driver
  • is there a template thats already sets-out what i would need to include on any of the threads, as i dont want to word it wrong when i send it to them...?

No, we don't create templates for one liners!

It is NOT difficult, ''The driver was'' is how to start the sentence, like Redx said:

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Ignoring the fine is old advice - used to work but doesn't any more. Pretty good example of what could happen here: https://!!!!!!/2P3OrWL

You just need to spend a good hour or so reading through the newbies thread. I did the same a while ago, and have successfully appealed a few tickets now (and helped others do the same) over the last few years. Well worth the initial investment in time!
