The EU has ambitious recycling targets, but now we are leaving the Government don't give a fig.
    Not true.

You might want to research the date when a (Conservative) UK Government introduced Landfill Tax compared to the date of the EU's Landfill Directive.

Landfill Tax is the key driver of recycling, the cost per tonne of disposal is far more important to cash-short Local Authorities than meeting some arbitrary targets.

Every tonne which is recycled is a tonne less to go to landfill at Council Tax payer's expense. High-grade recyclables can be sold which generates income rather than a cost.

If and when the Government announce a reduction or scrapping of Landfill Tax then your claim might have some validity, but until then it remains anti-Brexit/anti-Government ballcox.

The amount that all councils budgeted to spend on recycling services has fallen in real terms from a high of £630m in 2013-14 to £569m in 2016-17 - a fall of 10%.
Councils just don't have the financial resources to do what they once did.

So nothing to do with Brexit after all then.

There seems to be a trend of less commitment to recycling; I cannot see that being reversed once we leave the EU, unless we have a change of Government.

Before you put hardcore in the normal rubbish consider this. Part of your council tax is for the disposal of your waste, if you put hardcore in the bin then the bin will get significantly heavier so the cost to the council will increase for disposal. If everyone threw their hardcore in the bin and they went to landfill the council (you) would be paying significantly more landfill tax on it too.

Although some will argue that they pay their council tax so can chuck what they like in whichever bin they like, in reality it will only lead to higher council tax in the long run if disposal costs are higher OR take funding away from other services in your area.

Your situation may sound like small fry but include everyone doing it and it suddenly becomes a much bigger cost.
