teamaids - are they any good?

I’ve often wondered about having one and just
don’t know if it would be worth it. Does anyone use one? The look outdated - and I’d prefer coffee in the morning, is it possible to have it make coffee??
There’s a second hand one I’m considering that’s about £12, not expensive but more than I’d want to spend if it’s used once and never again!

They look like they brew into a cold teapot? Cant imagine thats going to taste nice or be very hot.
Coffee would be easier: just set up a filter machine on a plug-in timer.0 -
No, I'll not repeat the goblin joke here!0

How hard is the water where you live? They're a pig to keep descaled if you have very hard water. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

I sniggered anyway:DGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -
Mum had one in the 1980s but found the noise of the water heating was enough to wake her up which rather defeats the object of waking to have your nice hot drink ready for you. She used it as a bedside lamp (and probably still does) but unless you've got one already, it seems a bit unMSE to get it as a bedside lamp0

Haha! Thanks, some great replies. BoP I’d like to hear the joke!
I did get it - I did a bit of googling and this one is a modern day version and looks ok. Figured for the cost I’d give it a go and see how I like it. If nothing else my parents would like it in the room when they stay with me.
The water in my area is soft enough, gets a bit scaled but actually not much compared to some places I’ve lived.
I’ll report back when I’ve given it a go0 -
Teasmaid? That's not a word I've heard since the Generation Game c1980Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I confess. I have one. I love it. I do not function without my morning tea. I just press the tea now button to have my morning cuppa (there is a choice between setting it to make tea just as the alarm goes off, or just to press a button when you want).
Yes it shoots the water into a cold teapot, but it is so hot that it doesn't matter.
Yes you can use if to make coffee - instant would be fine but for ground coffee you'd need a very fine strainer of some sort.
And yes, you have to descale them regularly. I'm in a hard water area so every 2-3 months (it's quite easy). The first one I had collapsed after 2 years but it was my fault because I didn't descale it at all.
I have the old fashioned looking design. It's very practical because you can put stuff like cups etc on the lid.0 -
My grandmother had one, it had a clock on it, she only used it for making tea a few times - keeping it beside the bed because of the clock. She found she missed the routine of getting up and going downstairs to put the kettle on for her morning cuppa! So did the cat as she would feed him while the kettle boiled!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

I've had my Teasmade for 27 years, and still love it! Nowadays I just hit the button to make the tea now, but used the alarm when I was working. It sounds like a steam train arriving at the station . SPxNote to self: I'm a human being, not a human doing! 😊0
