How can i get a credit score?

I've been with my bank for a few years now and they sent me a letter offering loans for as little as 3.5%. This seemed too good to be true so i rang them up and they quoted me 20% because i have no credit history.
I buy everything with my own cash as i hate paying interest on things and i am very frugal. I am looking to buy my own house in the next few years and my friend told me that without a credit history i will not be able to get a mortgage. Is this true?
And how can i build my credit history so that i can get a good rate on a mortgage and loans in the future?

Thanks

  • Get a credit card.

Use it and clear in full each month.

    Get on the ER.

    Ignore the score.

Generally shred anything the bank is peddling, including loans, falseeconomy loans tbh

  • If you have no interest in loans etc why did you call the bank for a quote on a loan?

You do have a credit history, maybe just a limited 1.

Check your reports with the 3 credit report agencies.
