The answers to Question 2 and 10 are still a little dubious but we think they're correct...
Click here for details. Entry is via e-mail. this is from Saturday's The Independent newspapers; for once they've put the details online, possibly because the comp is linked to an article; you have to scroll down past that to see the comp details.
To summarise the answers:
1 - TRUE
2 - FALSE (giving up smoking is best way)
[or you could say TRUE (except for giving up smoking)]
3 - FALSE
4 - FALSE
5 - TRUE
6 - FALSE
7 - TRUE
8 - TRUE
9 - FALSE
10 - TRUE (you can lose weight by eating same amount of food but reducing calorie intake, or through some illnesses that do not affect your appetite)
Any more improvements on the above?

I'd say True. If you changed what you eat to more healthy foods, but the same amount, then you must "lose Weight"
. Same with the type of exercise. :j #THANKYOUSIRALEX0 -
Thanks for posting this comp Nash0819.
Question 2. I'd have thought was true. Eating fruit and veg provide antioxidents (keeping free radicals down) which help protect against cancer.
Question 3. I think the link you've given shows the figures for Scotland as on the site it states 'Information about Scotland's people'. So I'm not sure about the answer being 'false'. People's diets have certainly got worse over the past 50 years, so I'd have thought stomach cancer would increase?
Question 10. I'd have thought was true. But are they talking QUANTITY of food (weight) or AMOUNT of calories? I presume they mean quantity of food, in which case the answer would be 'true'.0 -
I'm going to say true for 10 aswell. It would be possible to loose weight without changing anything due to health matters e.g. thyroid problems etc.

Question 2 - I have found (in this link)
To quote the Secretary of State for Health – Alan Milburn:
"Experts agree that eating fruit and vegetables is the second most effective way to prevent cancer and heart disease after reducing smoking."
I cannot agree with this statement.
So, ignoring the person who advocates a balanced diet in that article and going with the Health Secretary, the answer they want depends on whether they are talking about diet only. If yes, the answer is TRUE. If no, the answer is FALSE.

So I think you were correct, Nash, regarding question 3. :-)0 -

For number 10... wouldn't you lose weight if you had diabetes, hyperthyroidism, cancer, HIV, leukaemia, lymphoma, stress, drug abuse, heart disease, etc? whether or not your food intake/exercise were changed?
I think I'll put TRUE.
Cheers for posting this comp nash  and Good luck!
if you don't have anything nice to say, keep schtum.0 -

I understand that all those illnesses could cause you to lose weight but they would do so by reducing your appetite, I would have thought? So I don't think we can include those as reasons for a TRUE answer.
However I do reckon the accurate answer is "TRUE (you can lose weight by eating the same size meals but using lower calorific foodstuffs)". But they probably want the answer FALSE.

In relation to Q.10:
If you sat in a warmer environment you would lose weight through sweat alone.0
