Fuel Costs over the winter

Options
Does anyone have any info on any assistance that may be available to help someone cope with heating costs over the winter time, who is in receipt of Incapacity Benefit. This is their sole income. Feel the cold worse than someone who is fit and healthy. Have applied for Disability Living allowance but was refused, even after appealing. Have no utility bills at the moment but very worried about running up some over the winter.

The only help is that if the weather turns very cold for something like 5 consecutive nights or something like that.

You may be able to get a grant for insulation depending on income/need etc

cold weather payments are paid automatically during periods of very cold weather. This is defined as the average temperature at a specified weather station recorded as, or forecast to be, 0°C or below over 7 consecutive days) to claimants or partners who are getting extra money on Income Support or income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance because either:

puce.gif You have a child aged under 5; or
puce.gif You are long-term sick or disabled; or
puce.gif You or your partner are getting the guarantee element of Pension Credit
Cold weather payment is currently £8.50.

Have you looked into what other benefits may be possible e.g. loft insulation, cavity filling etc.

Consumers can qualify if of pension age, disabled etc.

You may also fall into the "fuel poor" category and qualify for help from your Supplier on this.

    Have a look at this:
