Bank or Building society query

Are there any banks or building societys that look more favourable on people with bad credit rating?
any of them that would open an account for you to see how well you get on first by first applying online and getting an answer.
anyone been in the same position and managed to open an account knowing they had a bad rating from the past?

I'm not sure there are any banks advertising the fact that they want people with bad credit ratings. There are some that will give you a basic account and offer to review it at a later date based on how you have been operating it.
I have a poor credit rating and explained to the Clydesdale/Yorkshire Bank that we were getting back on our feet and repaying our debt and they have said they will review the account at a later date taking into account the conduct on the account. I do not expect this to be immediate but reckon within a couple of years we should be getting more favourable.
These things take time. In the mean time I have a Maestro card, telephone and internet banking and great customer service that is within the UK.0 -
Barring undischarged bankruptcy you should have no problem opening an RBS Key account or for that matter a Natwest Step Account.
Hope this helps.
And I should say they both now come with a Solo Card, though no cheque book or any 'credit' facilities.0 -
A&L give a plain current account with cheque book and electron card (no interest) to people with a bad credit rating. Keep the account running in good condition for a while and they will upgrade your card to visa debit.0

You should be able to open a Basic Bank Account - the link includes a list of providers.
