Keyboard stops working after trying to enter safe mode

Hello all!
I press F8 on startup to enter the screen in which I select the way I want to start windows (normally, safe mode etc)
The initial process of Pressing F8 works, and takes me to this screen. However, once this screen appears, the keyboard stops working and I'm unable to press any key (up, down, enter), meaning I have to press the reset button to start the computer again.
It's a USB keyboard, the keyboard lights appear when i first start up, but after pressing f8 and the selection screen appears, all the keyboard lights go off.
This meaning I'm struggling to get into safe mode.
Can anybody help me please, I've never had this problem before.

Do you have another keyboard - usb does not load when in safe mode - you need a ps/2 connector0

Unfortunatly, I only have a USB keyboard. Thing is though, it's worked in the past.
I did however change which USB port I plugged the keyboard into. I used to plug it into the front ports, but they have come loose and pushed inside my pc. i need to fix them. so i plugged the keyboard into one of the ports on the back.
I wouldnt have thought that would have any effect on it though?0 -
See here - you want the msconfig route0

Superstar! Didnt actually know you could select safemode from msconfig.
However, what I wanted to do in safe mode didnt actually work. Annoying or what!
I wanted to uninstall my old mobile phone software in safemode, as it gave me errors in normal boot. however it said the same error in safe mode.
Thanks again0 -
You cant usually uninstall programs from SafeMode.
Contact the software's Support team for a solution (or an uninstaller tool)
or install the software again (hopefully repairs the errors) and then uninstall it via add/remove0
