Howdens Kitchen Quote

Evening,
After having a few kitchen quotes Howdens came out the cheapest and for a style I quite like. I tried DIY kitchens however they came in quite a bit higher in price which is surprising compared to quite a few on here.
Anyway, we are using a standard trade account for the pricing and have the full price with discount shown on the quotation. They seem to have a big push for sales in October from what I can tell.
I'm going for basic appliances due to budget and I think sourcing some of my own I can save a couple of hundred just in that.
The quote shows "Worktop Jointing Compound - £45.58 (ex VAT)" I'm getting a joiner in to do the fitting of the laminate worktops but having a Google brings up many products of that name at much cheaper prices. I can't see it being anything different for the massive price difference?
Do you think there is room to play them and bring down the price? I'm not usually any good at haggling and normally only go in with little white lies that other places quote slightly cheaper with extra features for things in the past depending where I am. The "discount" on the units seem to be around 65%
I have two quotes with one showing curved posts for the ends and one without, the one with adds around £500. It looks great but not sure I could justify the extra expense just for them.
Any advice from anyone buying from them in the past would be great!
Thanks.

Let your tradesperson buy their own materials. They will have a preferred thing anyway. Just tell them you're not buying Howdens. Or ask if they want you to - they'll tell you it's overpriced if it is (it is).
I'd buy all appliances elsewhere for choice and value. Be careful with worktop and hob depths - that the first can accommodate the second. And Howdens cabinets don't seem to fit most inbuilt microwaves so check the dimensions agains the Howdens' ones if you buy one of those elsewhere.
65% is a poor discount. The fabled sale does start imminently, so wait. "Discounts" of 75% or more are realistic.
I really don't see the point in the curved units. Not for the price. It affects the price of the worktop as well. You could buy amazing lights and fab tiles or a dining table, art... Something that has much more unique design impact on the room for that money.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

We are getting a Howdens kitchen as our carpenter friend reckons his mate there can get us a good deal, and my wife likes there designs. (We had one in our old house) the 75% discount you speak of, is this from the first price they quote? Just wondering how hard to push them on the price without going over the top! (We havent got a quote yet)0 -
Howdens have a genuine once a year sale in October.
They will negotiate further on price...the local branches have aggressive sales targets and once you have settled on your choices....push again for better price they seem to roll over.
We went curved on some units and Mrs Kit Katt loves it...it's a little different . Prices do go up as it's harder to manufacture and the volumes sold on curved are lower .
Enjoy new kitchen when it comes0 -
Oh we went on the open market for the appliances... larger range out there... some stuff from Howdens is great and again they will negotiate.
We bought a AEG fridge freezer and a Neff combi micro / oven from them . The rest we bought from online Cookers and ovens ... great service easy to deal with. Carriage was non negotiable that's annoying when you are spending a big chunk of cash.0 -
Best way to get them to compete is to provide other quotes from competition.
Focusses your mind too.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
