You fond the CV boot problem but you never opened the bonnet of a new (to you) car? I can see you having real problems here, 17 days and fine then this, a little hard to believe and one even harder for you to prove.

Failed to check the oil weekly or before a motorway journey?

Grease from the CV joint made its way around the brake disk into the outer part of the wheel where its visible? And no mention of grease all over the brake disc or wheel arch?

How did it damage the wings?

  • Thank you everyone for your input.

Yesterday I was still angry and shaking about the whole thing and every comment on here has helped me. Could have been worse if I wasn't on a straight road so feel lucky.

I'll get the car fixed but I now understand it would be difficult to prove fault was there beforehand.

Thank you for the advice on all areas
  • One of the 1st things i do if i have a new car is pop the bonnet when i get home and check all levels be it oil, coolant, brake fluid. 17 days in and it suddenly pops open is going to be hard to prove that the catch is faulty.
glad everyone is ok must of been scarey at the time
  • So you're getting it fixed yet you said previously it was a write off??
    Makes no sense!

Being an insurance write off doesn't mean it's not fixable.
  • No grease in the CV boot and yet carried on driving it? Good luck having that repaired under warranty.

The OPs whole story smells fishy to me.....
