HSBC security number

Can anyone who's opened a HSBC current account lately tell me whether you need to call them to set up a security number to access online banking?

Yes, you have to phone them up to setup a Telephone Banking Security number.

Once you have this you can setup online banking access.

That was my recent experience anyway.

You'll need a code generator device and a security number to use with it. It should come in the post, but you may be able to collect a device in branch.

I'm not sure whether it's possible to use an app instead of the device?
